I have the (may be wrong) impression that they can prefer the others contenders to her, the three Dames + Wallis (because everyone is saying she is unquestionable here) + Riva because she seems to give the best performance of the year (I have just seen so far Riva, Cotillard, Dench, Streep and Watts) and they don't use to be arrested by fame, age or non english performance But, you'r right Watts should be at least as alternate, before Cotillard.

LOL, no, I don't know if I'm dropping Knightley... I just think she might be the most vulnerable.

Maybe Watts won't happen at the Globes?

As for Wallis + Riva, they both have more pros than cons IMO. People are so passionate about their films... You can't say the same about Anna Karenina, which is more divisive than anything. Besides, for as much as the Globes apparently love Knightley, they've only nominated her for P&P and Atonement; they snubbed her for The Duchess and A Dangerous Method even though they nodded her costars!

I don't think Wallis or Riva are happening at the Globes, but Wallis is possible. I don't see Riva happening, although I think she's getting that Oscar nom.

BAFTA is going to be the Cotillard, Dench, Lawrence, Riva, Watts show

I also have her missing with Oscar

There are six names in the running, and I think she'll come in sixth...but it's just a feeling I have today.

Wallis should hit with the Globes, but Riva seems very unlikely to me. Amour seems like a Foreign Language Film and nothing else kind of movie for them. Would Riva even show up if she were nominated? Globe nods are 75% about how the red carpet will look. I think it will be:

    Chastain
    Cotillard
    Knightley
    Mirren
    Wallis

Watts is possible because The Impossible seems fairly Globe friendly.

Great. Now who's going to watch Sunday Rose on SAG night??

If having buzz means every single person on this forum needs to predict you, then sure it's looking bad.

    Nothing's happened...

I'm thinking Globes will look like this:

    Chastain
    Cotillard
    Knightley
    Mirren
    Watts

I could see Knightley missing for Lawrence actually, since the idea of Lawrence being a double nominee sounds very Globe-like.

It's not "starting to look bad". Nothing's changed.

I still have her at #2 but I don't think (anymore) she's anything close to a lock.

Eh, I don't see Knightley missing GG, not for Wallis, Riva or Watts. If Chastain indeed happens, it's most likely Chastain/Cotillard/Knightley/Wallis/Watts (or Mirren if Drama).
I know I've got a big ego, I really don't know why it's such a big deal, though.

    What's changed? LOL

And anyone who ever used the word "lock" for Wallis is naive. I mean, there was arguably a time - this summer - when Wallis was no. 1 in terms of most likely for a nomination. This was at a time before Silver Linings Playbook (and The Impossible) had been seen, before we know anything about Zero Dark Thirty, before Cotillard's campaign began or Amour started to pick up buzz. But because she is so unknown, because of her age, and because of the small size of her film, she's never been a "lock".

I think she's still around no. 2 for the moment, but if positive word for Chastain and ZDT continues when more people see a screening of ZDT this weekend, Wallis will move down to no. 3. Around this time of year, people ALWAYS start writing off the Summer contenders b/c their films aren't in theatres anymore, but every year, a slew of Summer contenders are ALWAYS nominated (and there are hardly any others besides Beasts this year). Those big, buzzed-about, breakout Summer films are not forgotten come awards time; this happens year after year. And Beasts screeners were part of the second wave of screeners to go out, in October, so plenty of voters will see the film. Plus the DVD comes out to the public in two weeks.

Ugh.... Trailer 3 for ZDT needs to hit soon. Hopefully we'll hear her talk this time. At least one word would be nice.

I guess the likely nominees are:

    01. Jennifer Lawrence, Silver linings playbook
    02. Naomi Watts, The impossible
    04. Quvenzhané Wallis, Beasts of the souther wild
    03. Jessica Chastain, Zero dark thirty
    05. Emmmanuelle Riva, Amour
That's my five (4 and 3 switched) with Knightley/Cotillard as alts.

Mirren got her filler nom for that Station movie thing.

Are actors only allowed one? If so, Judi Dench needs to be prosecuted.

No, but I doubt anyone thinks Mirren needs another filler nom, especially when there are viable options.

I agree, a filler is only needed if there are not enough viable options. There are plenty.

How is Riva like in interviews, and does she speak english?

This is the kind of actress where one or two great appearances on the right shows could make a huge difference.

I dunno, the people that vote for Mirren aren't going to consider her filler.
