Obviously Spielberg will have no trouble getting in over potentially more deserving directors, but with someone like Russell, his under-directed work may have a hard time getting past someone like Bigelow's. If it's as tense as I think it's going to be, it's going to be seen as a more director-driven film than Silver Linings Playbook (for one example).

Lol, people wanted to ban me for not liking THL.
"Now my life is sweet like cinnamon..."
I am not sure eiher how to gauge her chances for the win. It will be interesting to see how the race unfolds as I think Chastain will most likely win Best Actress Drama at the Globes, which will propel her into race. While the reviews state there isn't a lot of backstory, it seems like she has several potentially Oscary scenes. But it is clear that Chastain is looking good for a nomination, which is impressive as she wasn't on anyones radar a couple months ago.
Indiewire Playlist review was posted and gave it a B+.
Here is Scott Feinberg analysis of its awards chances. He thinks it is a good bet for nominations in Best Picture and Actress. He had strong words for Chastain.
And thanks to a minimalist but powerful star turn by Jessica Chastain -- an Oscar nominee last year for The Help -- as well as the filmmakers' painstaking attention to documented detail and remarkable re-creation of the Navy SEALs' fateful mission, it is worth the journeyConfirms what we already know. It seems like there is a consensus emerging for the film with Best Picture, strong chance for Director, Actress, Original Screenplay plus techs as likely.Chastain, surrounded by a team of solid supporting players -- among them Jason Clarke as a black-ops interrogator, Jennifer Ehle as a fellow female intelligence officer, Mark Strong as her middle-manager, Kyle Chandler as her superior in Pakistan, James Gandolfini as the head of the CIA and Joel Edgerton as a Navy SEAL -- is essentially asked here to carry a movie for the first time, and she rises to the occasion. As most of us learned last year, she has the talent, looks and charm to be a superstar.
Of course:
1. Jessica Chastain gives far and away the best performance of the year by any actress, at least here in the US – she gets competition from Emannuelle Riva and Marion Cotillard. It helps that Bigelow and Boal designed the whole movie around her character, not framing her behind, depending on, flirting with any man but instead, holding her own. She’s the smartest one in the room, the most confident and the reason we ultimately “get” Bin Laden. Last year and this year, the Oscar best picture nominees have mostly centered around a male figure whose redemption is the most important thing in the film. Well, for once the opposite is true and it’s breathtaking.___Is that enough hyperbole for you? I will be writing plenty more later, but I’m guessing it’s a showdown between Chastain and Jennifer Lawrence. Both are very good. The stronger Best Picture contender may end up taking that prize but Chastain carries the whole movie. We shall see how that one plays out.
This excites me.
http://www.awardsdaily.com/blog/2012...of-2012s-best/Bigelow directs the shit out of this movie. The Bin Laden raid is some of the most exciting scenes put on film this year or any year.

"I'm a firm believer in karma, and I think this situation is a huge learning lesson for me.
To grow and expand as a spiritual human being. I want to lead a country one day for all I know".
Sounds like Chastain might become Sasha's new Sally Field.
LMAO. "Bigelow directs the shit out of this movie," better be on the TV spots!![]()
