Has it truly lost buzz or is it simply AD wishful thinking? The film has already doubled its budget and played in less than 2,000 screens I would say it has done well box office wise.

DDL wins if Jackman isn't nominated. If Jackman is nominated, it's a race. THAT IS THE OFFICIAL POSITION OF HBT.
Also I guess Denzel COULD win, but Flight being a sort of weird, disjointed movie could hurt him.

DDL has been giving great performances in classics/masterpieces since A ROOM WITH A VIEW even if he rarely makes a movie. He should have won for GANGS OF NEW YORK. Not sure how many masterpices Streep has made in the last 25 years. Adaptation, give me a break. Music of the heart? Doubt? Iron Lady? Prada? One fine thing? Madison county?

And frankly, Denzel is running a less arrogant and abrasive campiagn than DDL. I think he'd be a pretty easy alternative for voters actually.
Could we please stop comparing everything to Meryl Streep like she's the end all be all. This is about best actor, not about Streep. The average person even people that really love movies think Streep is 'blah'. She's a fantastic actress but that's it and she's nothing more than that. Most of her roles aren't memorable, her movies definitely aren't. Stop already about Meryl Streep.

It's quite subjective. If one were to trust IMDB, DDL before this year had 6 projects worth rating 75 or higher, vs. 9 for Streep. One can't, really, but I would trust a collective group of movie fans more than I trust a random individual who has weird capitalization and spelling issues.

Also, since Kushner wrote DDL's latest, one would be remiss not to mention Angels in America, Streep and Kushner's greatest work.

Are you fucking high? Every one of these statements (except that she's a fantastic actress) if ludicrous and worse, false.

I'm confused... Is Streep blah or is she a fantastic actress? LeonardShelby is contradicting himself.

If any girl can win Best Actor, it's Meryl.

Honestly until we get a read from Jackman, I think DDL is the favorite so far.
BREAKING NEWS: Man of Steel is a hit! We're getting more superhero movies! AW commits mass suicide.

    Movies recently reviewed by RRA:

    Evil Dead (2013)
    Superman (1978)
In the Mouth of Madness (1995)
    Fast & Furious 6 (2013)
    Star Trek (2009)

Why are we talking about Streep in the Best Actor thread? Oh. Right. I forgot again, that on AD as the number of posts in a thread increases, the likelihood of a thread becoming about Actresses approaches 1.

Are you? Go ask 5 people right now, tomorrow at work/school to name 5 Meryl Streep movies? Their favorite? Least favorite? Favorite performances? All without looking. They couldn't. Just because she's a great actress doesn't make her memorable.

If this was like the 90s I would probably agree with you. But she's been churning out mom porn for the past ten years that she's every housewife's favorite actress now.

Apparently you are because being a fantastic actress excludes you from doing movies that no one cares about or even heard of. That's what I meant. I see all the Meryl queens have come out in full force. I must have touched a nerve. Guess what? I DON'T CARE!!!!!!!!! Get back to the topic at hand: Best Actor, not comparing every actor to Meryl Streep.
