    I love Linda Cardellini.

And while I'm sure she's doing it to get some attention, the fact that she's doing out of pocket is cool. A suprise SAG nod isn't out of the question either.

If Lindsey Weir gets an Oscar nod that'd be pretty amazing. She'll probably just go as far as ISA though.

    She's mounting her own campaign?

    Melissa Leo would be proud.

Cardellini is excellent in Return and deserves consideration more than some of the names thrown around.

Weisz could also surprise at SAG?

On Nov. 14, in a cineplex plastered with posters of the blockbuster Skyfall, best actress Oscar hopeful Rachel Weisz (The Deep Blue Sea), the wife of James Bond himself, Daniel Craig, got to be the center of attention for at least one night. After a screening of the little indie, in which she gives a breathtaking performance, Weisz participated in a SAG Q&A moderated by yours truly and was subsequently feted at a party at a private residence that drew Academy members such as Sylvia Miles (Midnight Cowboy).

It depends if screeners are sent out. Return is getting free screeners sent to every SAG member and that certanly is better than nice little private party screenings.

Also this is the type of film we where talking about when discussing screeners. A small well liked but mostly ignored indie flick that gets a bit of a revival through free DVD screeners. Magic Mike was a hit that doesn't need free screeners for people to know what it is or to watch it.

Either I think the SAG lineup will be Lawrence/Chastain/Cotillard/Mirren/Dench.

Watts is getting Angelina Jolie's vote. Rejoice, McTeague!

Jolie called Naomi Watts’ performance “extraordinary and beautiful”

And Naomi will be honored at Palm Springs International Film Festival

Watts will receive the Desert Palm Achievement Award at the 24th annual fest, an award that, in recent years, has gone to Michelle Williams, Natalie Portman, Marion Cotillard, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Kate Winslet and Halle Berry in recent years.

Here is some early rumors from Jeff Wells.

Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal's Zero Dark Thirty screened last Friday night for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, and the immediate word (based on responses from two HFPA members passed along second-hand) was "definitely Jessica Chastain for Best Lead Actress, Drama" but less enthusiasm for the film itself.
Hmmm we will know hopefully more when it is officially screened. But it seems like Chastain a really strong contender to win Best Actress Drama at the Globes. It really looks like its going to be Chastain vs. Lawrence as we all expected.

Lmfao, Sylvia Miles. Who does she think she is... Ziyi Zhang?

Anyways, Deep Blue Sea is definitely the type of film that needs screeners. They should have sent them out a month ago.

    9. Emmanuelle Riva, Amour (I'm probably underestimating her)
    10. Linda Cardellini, Return (Newbie, screener, likeable character actress, great reviews, possible SAG nod, could be this years Damian Bichir. It's an odd year)

Where is the notion coming from that JLaw is purely a default frontrunner? She's bang in the middle of what AMPAS likes in this category. Young, hot, BP nominee, killer year, new "it" girl, previous nominee, Harvey behind her, plays crazy and sexy at the same time, steals scenes from the male protagonist, is great on the campaign trail etc.. She's basically Paltrow 2.0, and Paltrow didn't purely win by default, she beat out Cate Blanchett in friggin' "Elizabeth". not to mention Emily Watson and Fernana Montenegro. Even if Chastain is great in ZD30 and the film is also great, both of which I fully expect, she's got her work cut out to unseat JLaw.

And "the greatest one who ever was, Meryl Streep..."

Edit: I think Jlaw's Oscar clip just aired on Leno.

Cardellini? Mary Elizabeth Winstead has a better shot because of SPC.

Among thousands of others, dear. But as always, there are some who are always reluctant to change long-time predictions, as if that was a sign of being a bad predictor, and refuse to see the writing on the wall. Girl has gotten full articles dedicated to her performance in Entertainment Weekly and the LA Times, she's been called for the HR actresses roundtable, big stars (and AMPAS voters) are talking great about her performance, the movie keeps getting glowing reviews and could very well be a BP contender, it has already make its big (for Spain) budget back and everything else it makes will be a gain for its American distributor, Lionsgate-Summit, which is making a huge campaign... But to some that's still not enough, becasue Erikdean didn't like the movie.

People. Erikdean hated Crash and Slumdog Millionaire. He's good at jokes but not at this.

See, Erik hating The Impossible is one of the reasons I'm predicting it to get a BP nod!

That said, I'm still not very confident in Watts, though I will admit that her campaign is starting to heat up.

Watts would definitely get pulled along with the film. No doubt about it.

Watts and the studio's campaign has been really impressive. They been doing all the necessary behind the scenes Q&A plus the big publicity stuff (ie THR roundtable) that I thinking about putting her in my Top 5. Watts though needs to hit GG and SAG and if she does then I think she is a really strong position to get nominated again. I mean those screenings and Q&A are often not factored in the discussion here as much as who has "buzz" but I mean they are responsible for many of surprise nominees (Hill, Bechir, etc).

I thought it was widely accepted that Bichir's nomination was a result of the SAG screeners?
