Considering the weakness of the year, anyone think the Globes will decide to go in the same route of 2005 in which they moved one of the big supporting players into lead to fill the void of the dramatic actress category? Perhaps they'll decide to move Hunt into leading drama (Like Bello for A History of Violence) and move Mirren in comedy which seems even more in need of contender options? I know people feel Watts has a chance at the GG, but considering they snubbed her for more traditional awards fare roles (21 Grams and The Painted Veil) and for films they loved or really liked (Mulholland Dr. and King Kong) would they really go for her in a genre type film?

I doubt they'll move Hunt in leading just so they don't have to nominate Watts. I'd say the contenders right now are Chastain-Wallis-Cotillard-Knightley-Riva-Mirren-Lawrence (THG)-Watts. They have plenty of alts. so they don't need to move Hunt.

It'd be a very Globes thing to do.

They did it to Watts in 2005 though, they could have also nominated Allen but she snubbed them so they snubbed her (Could the 85 year old Riva suffer the same fate) or Kilcher despite her campaigning and being in a Malick film. There was also bigger A-list contenders like Zellweger and Moore, but they decided to upgrade a supporting actress instead.

I don't think they did that purposefully because they disliked Allen, Watts, Zellweger, etc. They probably thought Bello was a co-lead, no? I'm not sure, I don't remember that race too well.

They're not snubbing Watts for this. My GG drama actress predictions:
    Naomi Watts, The Impossible
    Marion Cotillard, Rust and Bone
    Jessica Chastain, Zero Dark Thirty
    Keira Knightley, Anna Karenina
Emmanuelle Riva, Amour OR q. Wallis, Beasts of the Southern Wild (I'm not sure which of these they'll go with)

I asked the woman who saw ZDT about how Jessica Chastain's performance was....

    got this reply........

"I'm a firm believer in karma, and I think this situation is a huge learning lesson for me.
To grow and expand as a spiritual human being. I want to lead a country one day for all I know".

Alongside Michelle Williams, she's the best actress working. No one can touch her. She's winning this. (I hope, haha. I'll put my mouth on her for now.)

It's hard to get carried away, because I don't know who this woman is....but saying she IS the movie is one helluva statement. It's almost difficult to concieve that, because it feels like such an ensembe-ly thing.

Jessica Lawrence may be well and truly fucked. Chastain has been hyping her own performance as well (comparing her role to Jodie Foster's in The Silence Of The Lambs). If Chastain has delivered, I think we have our winner. Lawrence and her role always felt too "light" to be a slam dunk win.

The best working actress wouldn't be currently getting awful reviews for her performance on Broadway. I like Chastain, and i sense she can win for ZD30, but let's not get carried away. She's a good actress whose getting some good film roles right now. She ain't Streep. She ain't even Kidman or Blanchett.

LMAO, let's not get carried away here. That ginger thing has a chance to dethrone Lawrence if, and ONLY if she and the film deliver. That was one woman on twitter, let's wait for reviews here.

And lmao just because you have a one great year doesn't make you the best actress working today.

Until someone reputable actually sees Zero Dark Thirty, this race feels like it's in flux.

    She writes for The Guardian.

Dirk is right. I've just checked up on this woman, and she's an extremely credible source/journalist and she does write for The Guardian. She's also written for Vanity Fair.

Guess people can OFFICIALLY LOSE THEIR SHIT!!!!!!

Chastain is winning if reactions remain like that.

But she isn't The Guardians film critic. While her opinion may reflect the critical consensus to come it still doesn't mean much.

I would be all for a Chastain win (or a Lawrence win for that matter), but even with this comment, I think people here overestimate Jessica Chastain in general. How do we know Hollywood is dying to reward her? If her film receives favorable and good reviews, then she's on even footing with Lawrence. What makes her have such better chances? The fact that Lawrence's role may be a little more co-leading/supporting? It certainly can't be based on respect...neither one has been in the industry that long.

Chastain is older (she lied about her age apparently, but i think she's mid-30's). I think there would be far less reluctance to crown her than Lawrence in her early 20's. If they are going with a newbie, i think they'll go for the one who seems like less of an ingenue. Chastin hasn't been around long, but she gives off more the vibe of a "serious actress" than Lawrence, who comes off way more casual and "movie starrish", if you know what I mean. I think stuff like that helps Chastain.
