I have some quibbles with the trailer - would prefer the dialogue sung rather than spoken, the barricade is in far too grand a locale. The insurrection took place in gritty little working class streets while the wealthy upper classes still dined out in the great public spaces.

The quality of the actors singing will take some getting used to as may ears are trained to glossy broadway voices, but the realism will add something. Hathaway is not Fantine for me yet....

I very much hope to hear the huge drums alluded to in the song. The drums were signals between neighborhoods that signaled resistance.... uprising. The Guard would fight to the drum and cut its skin to stifle resistance - it could be quite cinematic.

C'est pas notre faute. It's not our fault.

I like the editorial, but I agree that Anne looks sleepy and her eyes are a bit wonky on the cover.
Awful. She looks like an air hostess at a funeral.

The Rue Saint Denis is not some gritty little alley.

Actually, it kind of is. Although it has been better recently (with some big efforts from the City), the rue Saint-Denis is a well known place for streetwalkers and other illegal things. It's a rather narrow street from the center of Paris, although very long. It's one of the oldest streets of Paris and I don't know how it looked like during the 19th century, but I'm pretty sure it was actually worse than now.

Not posh, sure, but not incredibly narrow, and it crosses some big squares.

The trailer however seems to have the barricade besides the elephant of the Bastille square, which is used by Hugo as the place for many events in the book. Supposedly there were barricades all through Les Halles to La Bastille, so placing one at the Place de la Bastille is not some betrayal, or anything, and it keeps Hugo's idea of making the elephant (a symbol of the abandonment of what Napoleon achieved) a prominent element of the book. Plus, some of the fight scenes in the trailer are also from the uprising during Lamarque's funeral, and such funeral did take place in big streets, not in narrow alleys.

ETA: yeah, watching the trailer again, it seems there are only scenes of the uprising during Lamarque's funeral at the Place de la Bastille, then quick images of a barricade in a narrower street, and then an image that probably belongs to the final coda (as described in the script that was leaked) where a barricade is placed at the Bastille, but that is apparently a dream or a dreamy flash-forward to the 1848 revolution.

I am going to loathe this movie so much, but this is going to be sensationally huge. Like, I can't believe it. Happy Meal toys.

LMFAO. If only! I'd play with my daughters all day with the Cosette doll and the Javert action figure! You could be the barricade, Tomo.

I'll barricade this movie with my entire being.
Maybe you'll be able to get Fantine's teeth in a sad bag when you get your cheeseburger. FITTING.

We got it all figured out.
Mattel will be calling in a little while.
And maybe some cooking network wants our recipe for "Les Misérables Broth".

having seen the trailer again, I am sorry, Crowe is starting to grow on me. Javert is not supposed to be this young guy singing, he is old, and his voice reflects his old age with that determination to get Valjean. I cannot wait for this! This along with AK is my most anticipated.

Does anyone know when the soundtrack will be released?

As of now I can see its wins with

    Hathaway.
    Song.
    Production design.
    Sound mix.

Yeah, Crowe's voice was very good in the trailer, when you consider the character he's playing. Earthy, weary, aged, afflicted.

Ok, I know this can't outsell The Bodyguard OST, but couldn't this soundtrack become one of the year's biggest sellers?
I am thinking that my mother might not see the film but she do want to listen to the music for sure, and there are many mothers out there!

I dont think Jackman will win what with Phoenix and DDLewis in the mix. He will be lucky to get the nomination, but even at that he will probably still make it in. The globe is his, and I can definitley see him spoil at the SAG awards.

If you think he can win SAG and Globe, and considering BAFTA should gush all over this, I don't think why you're so sure he won't win Oscar...

The look of the second trailer is starting to grown on me, too. I guess I expected it to be pretty much completely realistic (expect for the singing) and was thrown off by some of the more theatrical elements.
