Glad Meryl is totally out now.

"Listen, anyone who says that the Oscars is not a popularity contest is lying through his teeth. People vote for their friends and they vote against the people they don’t like.
That's why Mickey Rourke couldn't win against Sean Penn lol. I appreciate the honesty.

I saw Skyfall tonight, and I feel like Judi Dench has to get an Oscar nod for something this year. I'm not sure it if will happen for the Bond, but I think it could happen for Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. It made tons of money, and old people love it.

OR it could be that the majority of voters thought that Penn gave the better, fully-realized performance, which he did.

    as good as it gets

Too bad she's not in Quartet.

    I don't think there's a default Dench nomination anymore, but we'll see.
There's of course been the whole "she's going blind!" thing, but will people remember it?
She needs to get knocked up pretty fast if she wants it.

She was out the minute she won for TIL.
Sony knew only with her "overdue"ness she might could have gotten some awards attention. Since that is gone (for now), they don't see why they should campaign anymore.
Weinstein will campaign the hell out of A:OC next year anyway.

    Yeah, Meryl will be back.
It's not like they overdosed on her and then figured she was toxic like they did with Winslet.

I feel next year with SaBu, Winslet, Watts (as the winner), maybe Nicole Kidman, Julia Roberts and Meryl of course is going to be great fun!

    No? What then?
Why dropped Sony the release they originally had in mind for December back to August in March?

LMAO, Dame Naomah is not winning for that turd waiting to happen known as Diana.

She'll have to settle for the drama globe this year.

Well, I just can't the Academy imagine giving Oscars to actresses for playing famous Brits as Queen Elisabeth I.+II. and Margaret Thatcher but not Lady Di? I find it painfully obvious.
But of course I could be wrong (and watch SaBu winning her second..... )

I think only the Satellites will bite this year.
There's hope for the Diana thing, though, if HBO buys it. Then it'll nab her an Emmy nod and TV will be open for her.

I hope she doesn't forget who she really is when she reaches the pinnacle of glory!

LOL, Watts is not winning the Drama Globe.

Anyway, Dirk, I'm glad you're optimistic, but it is a bit unrealistic to assume the AK score will go up for ten points or even more. Just because it has happened doesn't mean it will again. Frankly, if AK doesn't get over 70 on Metacritic, I won't consider her for anything but GG and BAFTA. I mean, I even said something similar about Viggo last year, and while that did happen, he still went nowhere.

I'm still with Lawrence/Wallis/Mirren/Watts/Riva, with Chastain and Cotillard (it seems odd to me that I'd predict her to score ALL major precursors and miss though...) as major spoilers, with Knightley and Dench waiting for a break with a possible SAG nod or something.
I know I've got a big ego, I really don't know why it's such a big deal, though.

If Cotillard hits every major precursor, why would she miss? She's much hotter than Paul Giamatti.

Because her role is extremely sexual and she's basically naked the entire movie (read this somewhere, don't know if it's true)? Which may be a turn off to voters, or make them not want to watch this foreign film/or screener ala Tilda Swinton.

They're turned off by male sexuality. They love naked ladies

exactly. How else would Winslet get 6 nominations? She bared her tits in 4/6 -- all but her very first nom and ESOTSM.

    Will Oscar have Riva Fever?
