    INOCA General Announcements Thread

Greetings and other such things from your resident INOCA handler/preparer/slave. I have a few things to go over before we actually begin, specifically a couple of poll questions I want answered. Please do not reply to this thread, as I will use it for general announcements and the like and it will, eventually, become the INOCA rules thread.

The poll questions are (and they will have individual polls in them, so please post your responses and vote in those threads):

    1. How should we handle ties?

    2. When should the awards begin?

    3. Should we have a documentary/original song category?

Okay then, based on poll results and looking at my own schedules:

    - Signups will start on December 1st. I will endeavor to recover the sign-up list from last year (it's around here somewhere) for this express purpose. Depending on the availability of this list, signups will go the whole month of December.

    - Voting will begin on January 1st. It will go AT LEAST the entire month of January. I will be open to the idea of extending it beyond that should the demand be high, but this will, essentially, give you two months (one month where you know you've signed up) to beg, borrow, and do whatever is necessary to see whatever it is you want to see. Actual ballot construction will be addressed when voting begins, as I am still ironing that part of it out.

    - Something new this year, and the primary reason why this is in its own sub-forum...there will be FYC/discussion threads created for each category (or group of categories, so the audio and visual categories may be combined together) that will be opened once voting begins or, hopefully, about a week prior to voting beginning. These threads are subject to the same rules of the forum (civility and the like) for everyone, and will also be subject to other consequences should flame wars or the like break out. Bear in mind These are not threads for every little tidbit of news about one performance or another. Nor are they the place for antagonizing posts that go nowhere. Admittedly I don't have direct power over this forum, but I will be lurking through these threads, watching discussions, and if they get out of hand, I will bring it to the attention of moderators. This includes actions on the part of moderators that I feel are not appropriate as well.

Having now the preferential system, will we have 10 nominees for BP or will we remain with 5 slots?

With 100 voters, one can get nominated with 17 number 1 votes!
    FYC
    Upstream Color - Best Picture
Shane Carruth - Upstream Color - Best Director
The Act of Killing - Best Documentary

    Don't forget about NANNY!

Some of our past winners are very awesome. Some of them (Michelle Williams?!!?!) are absolutely dreadful.
You can do it, Naomi! You're...
ONLY 10 EASY STEPS AWAY FROM OSCAR!

1.) Bankrupt small, independent distributor via massive Oscar campaign. Failing that, proceed to...
2.) Cash in King Kong residual checks to pay for FYC advertisements from Kinko's.
3.) To avoid getting sent straight to VOD, attach entire film as a "trailer" to another film people actually want to see. And then...
4.) Try to do it Lahti-style and win Academy Award for Best Short Film.
5.) Avoid telling a story that everyone already knows by adding exciting details and/or gratuitous editing.
    6. Carefully and patiently weather the wrath of film critics/the royal family/the tabloids/Diana-maniacs for trying to add said details. (Good luck!)
    7. Find all of the boxes with "August: Osage County" screeners and slip in self-made cam bootleg from premiere screening at Lowes...the hardware store.
(Not Loews, the movie theater -- too expensive!)
    8. Trick octogenarian Oscar voters into thinking that you are, in fact, a real princess. (Hey, it worked on Eva Marie Saint!)
    9. On Oscar night, have camera crews come to Nicole's house, Joan Crawford-style, so you can win and keep your day job.
    10. OSCAR!
