    Best Animated Film: November

With Frankenweenie and Wreck It Ralph being released, we are really only waiting on The Rise of the Guardians. We also now know the movies Gkids will be pushing with their most likely contenders in Le Tableau/Painting and From Up on Poppy Hill.

    1. Brave 91.1%
    2. Frankenweenie 77.8%
    3. Wreck it Ralph 57.78%
    4-6 tie. ParaNorman 44.44%
4-6 tie. The Pirates! Band of Misfits 44.44%
4-6 tie. Rise of the Guardians 44.44%

    7. From Up on Poppy Hill 22.22%
    8. Hotel Transylvania 11.11%
    9. A Letter to Momo 11.11% (Moved to 2013)
    10. The Lorax 8.89%

Rise of the Guardians has already screened and been reviewed by THR, ScreenDaily, Variety, etc. And it's certainly not Oscar-winning ink.

Right now, I'm pretty confident in predicting

    1. Frankenweenie (Disney)
    2. Wreck-it Ralph (Disney)
    3. Brave (Disney Pixar)
    4. Rise of the Guardians (Dreamworks)
    5. Le Tableau (GKids)

With the win between the first two, and my favorite being Le Tableau.

    Also:

    6. Paranorman
    7. The Pirates! Band of Misfits
    8. The Rabbi's Cat

I saw a screening of Wreck-It Ralph tonight actually. It's a good time at the movies. It would be a fine winner here, but I'm thinking Frankenweenie has this. I would love if Ralph managed the same nominations How to Train Your Dragon got--Animated Feature and Score. I really, really loved Henry Jackman's score for the movie! I doubt the music branch will acknowledge it, but it's nice to dream.

Moving my post: Wreck-It Ralph already has 100s from NYT/Time/Variety/AV Club. Of 8 critics I pay attention to:

    2 total 100s, Frankenweenie: 91 EW, 90 Time, 88 Travers, 75 Ebert, 70 LAT/NYT/Variety, 50 THR
    1 100, Brave: 88, 80, 80, 75, 75, 70, 70, 70
    2 100s, ParaNorman: 90, 80, 80, 75, 75, 50...No Corliss or Ebert
    0 100s, Pirates: 90, 83, 80, 80, 80, 70...No Travers or Ebert
    Ralph: 100, 100, 100, 90, 90, 83, 75, 75

    Other Disney films of note - Winnie the Pooh: 0 100s. Tangled 1 100. Frog 4 100s. Bolt 1 100. Lilo 2 100s. Dinosaur 1 100. Fantasia 2000 1 100.
Disney Animation might finally be on track to consistently having well-reviewed films - not great like Pixar generally, but way better than the days of Brother Bear/Home on the Range/Chicken Little. Next year's big animated movie for me was already Frozen (as opposed to Monsters U), but I'm more encouraged now.
I guess that makes Princess and the Frog this generation's Little Mermaid, which kicked off a decade of acclaim after 20ish years of slumming it. Then came a decade of meh-ness. And now back to relative acclaim.

Ang Lee - The only 2x Bafta/DGA/Oscar-Winning Director!
Meryl on Oscars: Y’see these little babies? These are my best f***ing friends
and they never let me down. Try to get ‘em away from me and I’ll eat you alive.

I should have probably waited until the list was announced today. Oh well. Regardless, the contenders really don't change.

I really loved ParaNorman. I wish it could do well. I'm horrible with this category. Almost everything I love never makes it and everything I hate wins. Frankenweenie would be fun, too.

I didn't really like this one, it dragged on and I was expecting something a bit more fun.

The Academy should love it then.

LMAO But even though Chico and Rita dragged on it had some redeeming qualities (the music, the Cuban scenery is interesting in itself) and A Cat in Paris even though I didn't love it it was certainly more fun that the Rabbi

I saw Le Tableau this weekend. This is definitely a contender for a nomination. Its thematically overflowing and exquisitely animated. It may not get in on nomination day if the studio films have a strong turnout, but if any Gkids slide in I suspect it will be this.

A Cat in Paris had great and interesting animation, but man was it a stinker.

    Will Oscar have Riva Fever?

    Ralph, Guardians, Brave, Franken, Pirates!

Aardman was one of the reasons this category exists, so I am guessing Pirates makes it.

I have just realized that the Wreck-it Ralph everybody is talking about, is that awful thing I saw a trailer of before Skyfall and Frankenweenie (In France it's called Le Monde de Ralph, but I should have got it)!
Wait, this thing is actually good??!

Chico and Rita is awesome! I was championing it so hard, you can't imagine my excitement when it got nominated, as did Kung Fu Panda 2 plus the awful Arthur Christmas was snubbed. Such a shame Tintin was snubbed though. A Cat in Paris had an interesting style but it was boring and it dragged despite its very short lenght.
I know I've got a big ego, I really don't know why it's such a big deal, though.

It was, and Le Tableau is so much better than it and beautifully done too. It will definitely get in.

Watch us all predict GKIDS movies for this category and all be wrong. But seriously, they are doing amazing work and were outlined in an LA Times article today http://www.latimes.com/entertainment...,4603475.story
