I thought John Goodman was like the best thing about Flight. He was hilarious, but he's totally not happening.

Unless DiCaprio is undeniable, I have no doubt that Tommy Lee Jones is winning. He was such a scene-stealer and my audience absolutely loved him.

Things like Alda happen in weak years, I sadly don’t think Goodman stands a chance this year.

I also think we’ll have 5 returning nominees for a change this year. The Top 7 is just too strong.

I am not sure Goodman has the perceived "veteran" status that Alda had - yet.

I agree for once, there is just no newcomer that seems to stand a chance, maybe Bryan Cranston could get in instead of Alan Arkin? haha

Does anyone think that if Les Mis turns out to be the frontrunner, Russell Crowe gets automatically locked?

I thought I was the only one, the role is one of my favourite because he gets a whole character arc from villian to sympathetic antihero. I really think he will end up winning giving Les Miz two maybe three acting wins.

I do. But he's also the first possible nom for Les Mis to go if reviews are only lukewarm.

    1. Jones
    2. Hoffman
    3. De Niro

    5. McGregor
    ----
    6. Goodman
    7. Henry
    8. Clarke
    9. McConaughey
    10. Arkin (lower because I think a first timer is more likely for the 5th spot)
    11. Crowe (waiting for reviews)

That is my five exactly. I suppose it's possible Crowe gets in instead of DiCaprio, but just based on who Hollywood likes more, I'd say that's unlikely. Weinstein has been on record saying he wants to land DiCaprio an Oscar for this, and while I think Jones is going to win his second instead, I do think DiCaprio is probably good for the nomination unless Django Unchained bombs.

Even Dirk doesn't understand Dirk's logic. He overhauls his predictions every other day.

    I'm confident in #1-4.

Then a first timer. If that somehow fails then we have actors who've been nominated before. And I'm waiting before predicting Crowe... or replacing DiCaprio for him. How is this so hard to understand?

Also, Django has Weinstein. DiCaprio is in a baity part and has never won before... and Weinstein's comments on DiCaprio makes me confident in predicting him right now. He's going to push DiCaprio all the way.

I don't have to wait for reviews to predict him.

Exactly, Dirk. How are you "confident" in DiCaprio (your #4 choice) and yet put Crowe at #12 because you're "waiting on reviews"? What the heck? Haha. Unless you're putting DiCaprio at #4 because of Harvey's comments months ago.

This doesn't explain having Jude Law (lawl?) above Crowe. He's not a newcomer, he doesn't have Harvey, he doesn't have a BP frontrunner, he's the main proof Crowe at #12 is just your anti-Miserables crusade.
