I think people are underestimating Hunt as a win possibility. Of course there's the fact that everyone has already decided Hathaway is winning this, but her film could be a stinker, or she could have minimal screentime and Barks and/or Seyfried could end up equally likely players for the film. We just don't know. Anyway, if that happens, Hunt is the only one who looks like a potential winner among the main contenders. This is a great comeback for her, it's been a full 15 years since her win now, it's an actor's movie through and through, she's getting raved and it's apparently a borderline lead role. I'm thinking she'll be the critical favourite anyway.
I dunno, The Sessions is going to end up being such a low-grosser that she (and FS) will have to be happy with a nom.
I think Sally Field or Maggie Smith are more likely to win a third than Helen Hunt winning a second. Seriously. As Erik said, box office isn't in her favor, she's already won, and it's not like many people feel she deserved the win, 15 years later (hell, the Academy gave Dame Judi Dench an Oscar for an 8-minute performance the next year as a means to make it up to her lol).
I'm not just trying to be a Helen hater, she really doesn't seem like someone that would win though. I think a newcomer like Samantha Barks would be even more likely...but it's all a moot point because Anne Hathaway's got it. The only thing she hasn't done yet is gotten pregnant...otherwise she's done almost everything else imaginable without going over the top a la Melissa Leo.
I want Hathaway to be a combination of Portman nervous aloofness and Leo's bashit fucking crazy.
I think there's a good chance of that happening.![]()
I don't like Emily Blunt very much, but I recognize she deserves without any kind of doubt to be nominated for Looper. She doesn't have a chance, but it would be cool.

Her promos for SNL are like....she needs to remake Boys Don't Cry or something.

Barks isn't selling it for me in Trailer 2, but I'll take all of your word for it.
Seyfried looks much better IMO
And no, I don't think three ladies from Les Mis will be nominated.
"I'm a firm believer in karma, and I think this situation is a huge learning lesson for me.
To grow and expand as a spiritual human being. I want to lead a country one day for all I know".
I've said this before, but Helen Hunt isn't winning anything for this performance. This is a classic nominated everywhere, wins nothing type of thing.
What if Barks steals the show a la Jennifer Hudson? You know how much critics love a breakthrough performance from an unknown in musicals. That would be hilarious really.
I say all three do make it, which will cement Les Miserables's status as the Best Picture winner, as no film with three acting nominations in the same category has ever lost.
1. Anne Hathaway, Les Miserables
2. Helen Hunt, The Sessions
3. Sally Field, Lincoln
4. Amanda Seyfried, Les Miserables
5. Samantha Barks, Les Miserables
Alternate: Maggie Smith, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
For god's sake...Seyfried is not happening. Cosette is as dull as dishwater, and Hathway and Barks ARE most certainly already happening. Plus this category is FAR too crowded for yet another Lesbo Mizz bitch, no matter how cute, talented etc. she may be, and how much her fangirls want her to happen...
All three are already characters with proven awards clout. Eponine won Frances Ruffelle the Tony and earned a Drama Desk nomination for Celia Keenan-Bolger, Fantine won the Olivier for Patti Lupone, and Cosette earned Tony and Drama Desk nominations for Judy Kuhn. For being dull as dishwater, Cosette is the only role to earn a performer more than one major theatre award nomination for Les Miserables.
:jjj:
Well it did help Judy Kuhn that she slept with half of the Broadway establishment.
