DDL does not deserve to win. I wouldn't say this performance tops his in There Will Be Blood. As far as this year, I thought Phoenix and Cooper gave far superior performances that felt more real and more powerful. Yes, DDL was fantastic in Lincoln, but not fantastic enough to even be close to deserving the Oscar.
I'm loving the raves Cooper has been getting from members of this forum. I can't wait to see his film and performance next week. I'm becoming increasingly confident in his chances. If Silver Linings Playbook significantly over-performs at the box office, I think he'll be very likely for a nod.
I can't work up any enthusiasm to see SLP. Everything about it looks like a run of the mill indie wank. I'm shocked Felicity Jones isn't in it.
The reviews for The Fighter were just as glowing, but the movie was just as formulaic as any other. I did end up liking it overall, but I didn't go to a theater to see it.
and the average rating on RT for Flight in regards to top critics is 8/10 (or 80/100), if MC counted all reviews equally it would probably have something similar to the RT average score. Remember when comparing MC and RT scores it's better to use the average rating of RT since the percentage only tells you how many critics liked the film not how much they rate it (that's what average rating is for).
Either way, film quality should not be used to determine how well a performance will do at awards, remember last year Streep won critic awards even though her film was badly reviewed.

If we're going all specific.
Flight trailer premiered in the beginning of June. I started predicting Denzel immediately after the trailer came out (you can see the post where I say that in the Flight trailer thread if you care to look).
You made the June poll on May 29th. Flight trailer premiered June 6th (The exact day I started predicting him![]()
). So I wasn't able to vote for him in the June poll one, just missed it.
I started predicting Cooper end of-July (there is a post in the July thread with me specifically saying so)... which translated to the August poll. lawl

Sharon Stone. Hathaway TDKR. Place beyond the pines. Lawl lawl.
The Place Beyond the Pines (very acclaimed reaction @ TIFF --from audiences & critics alike--) sadly has a 2013 release date, but I'm afraid it's to early of a release date for awards consideration. It's a masterpiece imo.
Hathaway TDKR - LOL, but Sasha Stone is predicting her?
Sharon Stone - The film was moved to next year. 2013 yo. You'll see.![]()

Reviews for The Fighter weren't glowing. It's at 79 at Metacritic. I remember after the first critics' reactions we thought it wasn't going anywhere save for a couple of acting nods. But somehow it played exceedingly well to AMPAS demographic and it had Harvey behind, and then it became a threat, and later a lock, for a BP nod. It, Black Swan and Inception were the films with the lowest Metascore in that lineup of 10. Meanwhile, SLP has true raves. And O'Russell, save for The Fighter, is anything but a formulaic director.
