Looking at the Best Director nominees of the 80s, there were 12 films nominated for Best Director and not Best Picture. With only 12 nominees, there probably won't be much difference on who the top choices will be (so I'll leave out the poll), but who do you think is the best of the nominees?
So rate them, rank them, whatever, who do you think was most worthy of the nomination and do you think the film should have beeen nominated for Best Picture as well (and if so, what should have been taken out).
Richard Rush - The Stunt Man
Wolfgang Petersen - Das Boot
Ingmar Bergman - Fanny and Alexander
Micke Nichols - Silkwood
Woody Allen - Broadway Danny Rose
Akira Kurosawa - Ran
David Lynch - Blue Velvet
Lasse Hallstrom - My Life as a Dog
Charles Chrichton - A Fish Called Wanda
