Beyonce is not Whitney, no, but then who is? But OMG she is not fuckin Brandy/Monica And I enjoy them, Boy is Mine was my jam, but vocal songstresses they were not. Beyonce is in a slightly lower tier of great vocalists, beneath the Mariahs and Whitneys but still extremely strong. And I'm not even her biggest fan but her pipes are definitely terrific.

Brandy and Monica are good singers, so it's not a knock on Beyoncé at all. I've heard all three in person and they''re all about the same level.

Beyoncé is not that much better than this, which isn't bad at all. She just have more opportunities to show off her voice.

    LOL Brandy and Monica.

Beyonce has one of the best voices of her generation and she's probably the performer of her generation, which just makes this stupid controversy kind of upsetting.

    Legend Houston disagrees.

Oh, I'll get the receipts, but in a radio interview a few years back. She was asked about singers of today. Whitney said Jhud and Xtina had really good voices, she just said Beyonce had good songs. Can't get the receipts now, I have to do a work presentation.

Don't get me wrong, I love Beyonce. I've been a fan of hers since No No No pt.1 came out. I just don't think she's this amazing singer. That's all.

I would counter that Beyonce has got better control of her voice and knows how to use it to better effect than Xtina, even if Xtina is louder or more powerful, that doesn't equate artistry. And Jennifer Hudson has a fantastic voice but so what? Where's her career or her great songs or hell, even hits, so that's a moot point. Beyonce has an amazing voice AND is actually creating hit songs and/or acclaimed songs and has a career and is an icon.

LOL I can't believe I am having to defend Beyonce, when I don't really even care about her, really. But I DO admire what she has accomplished, her talent, and her following is amazing.

Christina is unlistenable with her over singing on pop songs. And it's not even about the voice and tone so much as Beyonce can basically sing live flawlessly...Christina can't. She is always out of breath and pitchy. Beyonce usually sounds like the recorded studio version or better. Even she when she is popping her booty, doing 10 jumping jacks and hula hooping at the same time. This is what makes her the defining performer of our generation.

When Christina, Monica or Brandy can command a stage like this then let me know.

I agree that she is, but her vocals aren't that amazing. Don't get mad at what Whitney though.

I'm wondering if Beyonce is now going to make a point of singing live at the Super Bowl. I'm guessing she probably would have lip synched there (with it being such a huge outdoor event), but I'm thinking maybe they might be changing their plans.

I don't think Beyonce ever lip-syncs at concerts performances. For all we know, she had a cold at the inauguration. This all so silly.

Yea, I'm thinking its more about her presence as a live performer. I'm not sure where I'd place Beyonce, vocal wise. But it'd definitely be above the likes of Brandy or Monica. On the other hand, it wouldn't be anywhere near Whitney or Mariah. Janet comes to mind.

Good to know, Beyonce's actually the only of the major pop stars I've never seen perform live. From what I've seen, most of the female (pop stars) in that group of performers that came out in the late 90s and beyond, all lip synch in concert, except I think Pink. So I just kinda grouped Beyonce in there.

Bey is definitely better than Janet, vocals, wise - that might actually be worse insult than the Brandy/Monica vocal jibe that was made at her! Janet is a Queen of Pop and can sing, but it's a pop voice, with great charisma and sexiness but not known for the pipes is she.

I think Bey is in a vocal group, with say Kelly Clarkson. In terms of their actual generation. In terms of respected voices, we could also throw Alicia Keys and Adele in there too though obviously their vocal styles are totally different than Bey or Kelly's.
