I tend to slot dance under performance. But okay, to rephrase: Madonna is not very talented vocally, and I don't think she's written very great music, especially recently, where she has shunned originality in lackluster attempts to reinvent herself. Madonna is very talented in terms of dance and physical expression, and that lends to her being incredibly gifted as a performer.

As for her writing great music - it's iconic of a certain generation, definitely. But I look at something like, say, Vogue, which I feel is a kind of random assemblage of dance-music pieces until married to its absolutely fantastic music video. A lot of Madonna songs are like that for me - okay, it's a decent enough song, but the videos, man! The videos are unbelievable.

I didn't mean it like that, definitely. XD Writing before eating is clearly something I shouldn't engage in.

Madonna has written some really, really great music. Sure, she has a ton of iconic songs, but she is a terrific song writer when she actually gives a shit. Listen to Erotica, Ray of Light, Bedtime Stories, Like a Prayer, Confessions on a Dance Floor, heck even parts of Music and American Life.

I guess Beyonce is planning to really put herself out there next year:

Beyonce Documentary Premiering On HBO In February

HBO announced Monday that a documentary about the Grammy-winning singer will debut Feb. 16, 2013. Beyonce is directing the film, which will include footage she shot herself with her laptop.

Beyonce Will 'Definitely' Release New Music Before Super Bowl, Says The-Dream

After co-writing five songs on Beyonce's 2011 album "4," The-Dream (real name: Terius Nash) tells Billboard that he's "involved in every part of the process" for her forthcoming fifth solo album. When asked whether or not Beyonce will unveil any new tracks prior to Super Bowl kickoff, The-Dream says, "Definitely. She's got her stuff going. She took the summer to start recording, and now she's in a place where she's ready to start gearing up to reveal her plan."

The-Dream adds that the follow-up to "4" is so far along that multiple song releases are possible in the two months prior to Super Bowl Sunday. "She's already gearing up to get ready to put stuff out," he says. "I'm sure there will probably be a couple records you hear before the Super Bowl gets here."

If Beyonce releases new music before her Super Bowl performance, she would be following a strategy taken by Madonna, who released the single "Give Me All Your Luvin'" two days before performing the song along with a medley of hits at the halftime ceremony last February. Less than two months after the Super Bowl, Madonna released a new studio album, "MDNA," which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 359,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
