Trailer was a hot mess imo. This is either going to be spectacular or a bomb, one or the other, and it could go either way right now.

Box-office or quality wise? It could be great in one way and suck in the other.

It could also be a film like Moulin Rouge that has many lovers and many haters.

I think it looks very good. What I question is Samantha barks' acting (from that trailer).

But in the brief moment we heard her singing (albeit not coming out of her mouth), she sounded really good.

Where did it come out of?

I have never seen this musical or heard the songs, as far as I know, and I haven´t been interested in the film. I know the story, though. Last musical thingy I saw: Moulin Rouge. Walked out rapidly because of McGregor´s singing. So, my outsider impressions:
    1. I would go see this. It looks dramatic and gripping.
    2. The Redmayne/Seyfried?-duett sounded delicious.
    3. Hugh Jackman looked better than expected. I don´t care for him, normally. But there was - something, there, I thought, even though he´s no Jean Gabin.
    4. Crowe sounded - iffy. If that´s as good as his singing gets, his acting will have to be outstanding to compensate. But he could very well be outstanding, of course. He looked very good to me, very Maximus-in-a-lovely-uniform.
    5. Hathaway looked good, too.
But if too much of the singing comes from horse-riding, running and fencing singers, it´s going to be a goddam bumpy ride.

Eh. I neither liked nor hated the trailer. It wasn't anything spectacular, but it certainly wasn't as shitty as some posters are making it out to be lol. Jackman is still a contender whereas Hathaway continues her frontrunner status. I'm starting to think Seyfried has a decent shot at the nomination!

Argh, the production design is beautiful but why does he have to make it look like we're gazing at everyone through a fishbowl?? Everything is so goddam claustrophobic

Is there a particular reason people have more confidence in Barks than Seyfried? I'm not that familiar with their roles. I would think Seyfried makes more sense as a first timer since she's been a big name for a while. Might actually change my predictions, because she looks a lot better here than Barks to me.

    She really does.

Samantha Barks is totally coasting on the strength of her role. I really think that Anne, Amanda, and Samantha all make the final five, though.

As I remember it: He had a really pleasant voice, nice colour, but he couldn´t quite reach the highest notes. And there were quite a lot of high notes, and so much of the drama depended on nailing those emotional crescendos. So I think I actually liked him the most 98 per cent of the time, but I got too tense bracing myself for those crescendos, and so I walked out. (I really like him as an actor, though)

It's probably my favorite thing he's ever done. I was stunned at how great he was. I listen to this like, almost every day:

People keep bitching about how Hathaway's role is too small, but HBC's role, Madame Thenardier, is never the primary focus of any of the songs she is a part of. She is a backdrop character, who is kind of fun for her comic relief, but the role is just too slight to justify awards attention.

Barks has the best female role. Hathaway and seyfried are simply lesser roles. That's why I think barks and Hathaway have better shots of impact.

Everyone in the film is being nominated, including the child actor who plays Gavroche. Get with the program!

Ewan McGregor was fantastic in Moulin Rouge! and he has a great singing voice. It's still my favorite performance of his career.

I am all for a Seyfried nomination. I didnt have a problem with the trailer, but the cinematography is killing me, and watching more and more the production design looks, well ehhh like really fake. Like it looks like a set. Ugh I cant explain it. I still think this will score nods galore, but its nothing worth drooling over.

Thought Crowe sounded fine. Hathaway is winning you guys
