2013 Emmy Predictions

Well I watched all of season 3 here are my thoughts:

Hugh Bonneville did nothing this season but get more angry then ever, He was just badly written this season. His best tape would be episode 8 (uk episode list)
Michelle Dockery was her usual self except in the first episode where she had a very powerful scene. Episode 1 would be her best tape.
Maggie Smith continues to be the best thing about the show. She should submit an episode opposite Shirley where the two were both great.
Joanne did nothing compared to last season.
Jim was almost as badly written as Robert.
Brendan did get some good material but it was when he was in prison, that was about five minutes an episode.
Elizabeth was great and would be the best nomination after Smith.
Shirley was great in her two episodes. She should be a lock nomination maybe win if the academy still likes Downton.
The season had an ok arc but it's best actor was Jessica playing Sybill especially when she died after child birth.
There is still the christmas special.

Oh, I forgot about Shirley. She could easily win Guest (well, I know nothing about competition). JBF was very good, but I don't think she has a shot. Agreed that Smith and McGovern are by far the best.

I wasn't a huge fan of Leech in the first two series but thought he had some good scenes especially in the last couple of eps. For me Carmichael was my best of the third series in terms of consistency the whole series with Smith. Though everyone delivered in Episode 8. If anyone from downstairs deserves a nom then it'd be James-Collier.

I would love to see Laura Carmichael nominated, she is one of my favorite characters of the show and she was great this third season (even if they want to convert her in Jane Eyre? LMAO).

LOL so true about the Jane Eyre part. If Fellowes does go down that route I'll throttle him. I was annoyed he had Sir Anthony dumping her at the alter as it is .

I still haven't seen the last two episodes, but I would love to see Sophie McShera getting nominated next year from Downton Abbey cast. And since my Joanne Froggatt dream came true this year, I'll say why not... Since Froggatt did pretty much nothing deserving a nod this season.

And regarding the Guest Actor Drama category, I believe William Daniels from Grey's Anatomy is pretty much a lock. Or at least, it should be.

Sophie was great though she didn't have as much to play with in the last couple of eps (from what I remember) - Phyllis Logan probably had the best material out of the females in the downstairs cast.

I agree that no one from downstairs is likely to get nominated and Logan was indeed the best.

Brendan Coyle had so very little to do this season on DA but a lazy vote would get him in, I guess.

Yeah, and he has a great tape.
If the downton abbey love continue, i definitely think he will be nominated as supporting.
Elizabeth McGovern has great tapes too, I would count on her.
Some love for Phyllis Logan as Mrs Hughes would be appreciated

but yeah if there are supporting nominations for Downton Abbey in 2013, it should be for Smith, McGovern and James-Collier.

McGovern could go in either though she was more lead than supporting. Dockery would be lead again.

Are you talking about Dockery? She had a strong first two episodes with Shirley Maclaine (wedding) plus the finale (pregnant) - though she going by all the rumours that are circulating with Dan, she could have a good tape with the CS. McGovern had the ongoing plot with Robert. And both were involved in Sybil's episode.

IMO though if I was nominating I'd have Carmichael ahead of them with McGovern in 2nd, Dockery 3rd (and I'm a fan of them all) since Carmichael has had the juiciest material for the upstairs characters for the whole season (pursuing Strallan, being ditched at the altar and then turning into a journalist). Hence why I'd be ecstatic if she made it in.

For me, McGovern was best in show. Carmichael had more to do, but McGovern actually had the juicier stuff. I'm pretty sure she's getting in if supporting and if leading, she might get in, but that kills Dockery's chances. Can't see who else would get a nod, so the most this is getting is 5 - Boneville, Dockery, McGovern, Smith, MacLaine.

I agree that Dockery had pretty weak material this season and was mostly just there in some episodes. Unless the competition is weak, I think she may miss the nod. But let's wait for the Christmas Special first.
McGovern had surprisingly strong tapes, mainly Sybil's episode. I think she'll have a solid chance next year.

Call me crazy but I think this could be Breaking Bad's year. Homeland' second season was divisive, shows that lose have a hard time coming back to win (Mad Men), and if Downton couldn't win last year with its five million surprise nominations it won't ever win. Boardwalk Empire's moment to win was for Season 1, GOT has the genre problem and no new show will be strong enough to win.
