    End of Watch (2012)

This movie got three 100s on Metacritic? No, seriously. THIS movie got three perfect scores on Metacritic?

This is one of the most laughable, borderline offensive cop movies I've ever seen. The only saving grace in the whole thing is the acting. Gyllenhaal and Pena do a great job of anchoring the film and providing humor and a bit of poignancy to this otherwise putrid affair and Kendrick did a great job with her small role...matching her with Gyllenhaal was fantastic.

But really, the last scene and then the LAST scene are just terrible.

You better hope Erik doesn't see this.

LOL. I watched this today and LOVED it.

I dont' get where bryan is coming from calling it offensive. I thought it was suspenseful and hilarious and brutal and fantastic.

I will say that the "last" scene shouldn't be there.

Besides David Ayer just loves these cop movies, definately a child of the 70s. Mind you his movies I've seen (including TRAINING DAY he scripted) don't really do much for me but hey God bless him for trying to more or less populate the genre in the last decade. And considering this movie's low budget, I suppose good for him and Jake G. that this apparently made more this weekend than the pricetag, so profit is guaranteed.

Toda'ys lesson kids: Unless he's working for Jerry Bruckheimer, you do not fuck with the Jake. (Just ask DREDD.)

I agree with Erik, this is a fucking great movie. Gyllenhaal and Pena had amazing chemistry. And, well, I'm always a sucker for movies that succeed in making me both laugh and cry. Also, I think the filming method was awesome and thematically fascinating, though right now my brain's too fuzzy to explain why.

I am not sure why people hate the ending(s). There was not one dry eye in my screening. A very rare example of tastefully done "bromance" movie that don't beg for homoerotic slashfics.

By ending, I meant the final "day of the shooting" scene of them in the car laughing and joking. It should have ended right before that.

I thought the last car scene was more emotional than the funeral and fit much better with the main theme of the whole film. That what it made it for me so different from any other hero cop flick.

I adored it, even though some of the footage wasn't of my taste at all. The ending was so emotional I got teared up.

Pena was outstanding, it deserves some recognition. I will campaing for him in the INOCA.

    I agree with Bryan.

This is a horrible and shallow disaster, and I would also add a terrible waste of film. David Ayer, the writer/director, doesn't know a thing about filmmaking. The mise en scene was a mess; his utilization of hidden cameras was a nonsensical disaster that worked against the narrative of the film.

Honestly, the only redeemable quality of the film is Michael Pena's performance.

Anna Kendrick was great as well... but she was in all of what, 4 minutes of the film?

I found this engaging and incredibly moving. Peña deserves a nomination. The film actually made me cry. This is Jake's best love story since Brokeback Mountain. And I'm not talking about Kendrick.

Count me as a fan, although the found footage aspect was unnecessary. I'd nominate both Jake and Pena. Such a heartbreaking ending.

I don't know about the original poster, but I know some people who found the film misogynistic in the way the lead characters spoke about women or how the women were portrayed (Pena wife giving Kendrick sex tips, etc). I didn't see it that way though I thought it was simply a showcase of macho bravado and like others I found the film to be funny, moving and very realistic in large part due to the filming style which I sadly see isn't loved by all members here.

    Holy Jesus.

This was devastating. Harrowing, yet comedic; terrifying, yet full of heart and emotion -- this was unexpectedly incredible.

Gyllenhaal and Pena have such great chemistry together. (And films were Jake is in danger are always the most horrifying! /)

I absolutely love the way the film was shot -- the "found footage" aspect is used perfectly to make everything seem so immediate and raw.

A brilliant film (minus, perhaps, a few of the dialogue choices). I have no idea what bryan and guany are complaining about!
    WE'RE GONNA FIGHT!

This weekend...one last chance to save Halle's career from complete oblivion. Oh, wait...
