This does start looking more and more like 24 in terms of the worst qualities.
Oh girls get over it. It's a freaking fictionalized TV show. Absurd things happen. Suspension of disbelief is required. None of this is realistic. This is all essentially some alternate reality, aka fiction.
Agreed! I never bought his relationship with Issa and the boy's eventual death as basically the sole motivation for Brody becoming an anti-America terrorist. Like, what? That did not strike me as enough of a reason to plot against your country in the way Brody has. The rest of the show (e.g. Season 2) is just all exciting thrilling fiction. Obviously it's not believable; who cares? The show wouldn't be as fun as it is without these insane sequences and events. But I just think they could've come up with a stronger rationale for explaining why Brody became a terrorist.
I think the problem with that episode is that the period he spent with the kid (or of him in captivity in general) is told in too little time. They should have dedicated the whole episode to it. This is a bond (between him and the kid) that was formed over years. I can imagine him becoming so attached to the kid that he turned.
Don't get me wrong. I hated Brody's trip to the woods, too (though I found the Carrie half of that episode sterling). I just found the Issa episode worse.
HS
I'm SO glad Mike put annoying Dana in her place. FINALLY.
Also, why are they adding yet another layer of lies and deception with Peter's new storyline? Is it really important that he's got a secret woman and child? As long as we can enjoy F. Murray Abraham (!) more next week, I guess it's gonna be ok.
The Carrie/Brody stuff is as good as ever. I think Brody was a little too obvious when he said "it's your opinion what I care the most". Why doesn't Carrie suspect anything? She's usually much sharper than she was in this episode.
The Carrie+Brody stuff needs to stop. In my opinion, it's worse than any un-realness or whatever, the stuff that requires suspension of disbelief (which usually doesn't even occur to me until I come her anyway). It's far from interesting and it makes Carrie less strong a character. Her weakness doesn't need to be a man, all the time.
I know I've got a big ego, I really don't know why it's such a big deal, though.
I actually enjoyed this episode much more than the last two. I think it's mostly because Dana was relegated to the sidelines where she belongs. Seriously, why have they wasted so much time on her this season?
Great. Now who's going to watch Sunday Rose on SAG night??
Those were TIM HORTONS coffee cups Quinn brought for everyone. This conspiracy goes deeper than we thought. HE'S CANADIAN.
That was... amazing. In particular, the scene between Carrie & Nazir. So well-written, and with such palpable tension and emotion... Also loved Brody vs Walden at the end. Per usual, this show requires some suspension of disbelief (Brody being gone for so long and getting into the VP's office so easily?), but I love it. I also love how they've set up so many questions remaining for the last two episodes: who is Quinn? what is happening with Saul? where is Nazir? what will come of Brody? etc etc.
Was it cliché day when they wrote this ep? So, so bad, right up there with the ep where Brody was such an incompetent terrorist that he killed the tailor instead of delivering him to the safe house like he was supposed to.
Lowlights include:
WE KILLED OUR LOVE LIKE WE KILLED THAT WOMAN.
Nazir getting caught on video buying cigarettes.
Remote death by pacemaker.
The entire interaction between Carrie and Nazir which lacked any tension at all. I was bent over laughing when Nazir was like "Hey! You love Brody and so do I! Maybe we have some stuff in common!"
And really this show has gotten so soapy when you think about it. Brody had to leave his family because his ex-bff, who is the world's leading terrorist, kidnapped his mistress, who is also his CIA handler, to blackmail him into getting the pacemaker number of the father of his daughter's ex-boyfriend who is also the vp of the US and Brody's potential political running mate who killed the son of the world's leading terrorist who was also Brody's student at one point. WTF.
Hey, remember when we all balked when Brody killed the tailer?
Good times.
