    The New Normal: Season One

So, this was fucking awful. It takes the very worst aspects of Glee and decides to make a show about it. Preachy at best. And the music...good Lord, what was with the faux Fantastic Mr. Fox music?

I like all of the actors/actresses in this and I think the idea for this show is great. And if Ryan Murphy wasn't running this, I'd probably be more enthusiastic about where it could go over the season. But it's Ryan Murphy, so I'm sure this is actually subtle by comparison.

Eh, I kinda liked it. It's all over the place and Barkin needs sharper lines rather than 'salami smokers' insults but I can her working.

I think Ryan Murphy is uniquely ill-suited for 22 minute television.

I like Rannells, but Barkin's character borders on just offensive and not offensively funny. I loved the Grey Gardens references on the second episode. What kid does that!?

This show is a stupid mess. Who told Nene Leakes she could act?!

But it has a lot of (largely untapped) potential! Bartha is probably the best part.

Barkin is being criminally wasted! (And, OMG, you know your career is over when you are cast as a great grandma on network television. !)
    WE'RE GONNA FIGHT!

This weekend...one last chance to save Halle's career from complete oblivion. Oh, wait...

Watched the first episode and I wasn't too impressed. I love Justin Bartha, and I wish he'd be in more movies.

I think I'll give it a second try, seeing how they've aired 3 episodes to date now.

Watched the pilot and thought it tried way too hard.

Barkin is misused and it did not fit in well.

It is like basically trying to be Modern Family but ohhhh so much edgier but fails.

Unwatchable. Early on in last night's episode I realized this is it. This is the level this show seems to want to maintain. It is a shame because the couple and the surrogate mother all seem likeable and the people playing these characters are talented. But this is a slop.

I already gave up on this. Such a disappointment that both new shows with lead gay characters are so bad.

I'm just about done with this. The Baby Clothes episode is just about the worst episode of television I've ever had the misfortune of watching.

The fight between the two "faggots" and the "retard" is the most offensive piece of bullshit Ryan Murphy has ever done. AND HE'S DONE A LOT OF OFFENSIVE BULLSHIT.

LOL, I thought the 'black friends' episode was pretty good. Mainly for the fact that it finally found the exact right tone and language for Barkin's character. Now it's doubtful they can maintain that but I thought it was just right.

It had its moments, I guess. As did the second episode. Basically this has gone D-, B-, F, C+ for me.

I agree Baby Clothes has been the low point. I found Obama Mama INTERESTING for what it was trying to do, but also really, really uncomfortable. Archie Bunker worked as this person who could say these terrible things because everybody on that show understood what made him lovable in spite of how awful he was, even if what was lovable was very, very small and at the pit of his soul. This show has basically no idea what to do with Ellen Barkin, so it makes her harder to take when the show tries to have her say awful things OR say things a "sensible Republican" might.

I just didn't buy the fact that this couple was voting for Obama "just because he's black". It felt like a very desperate attempt to force a talking point into the show...which is how the entire show has felt. Like, obviously this couple is voting for him because of his liberal views on gay rights and social issues, etc. Now, there's plenty of room to look into the hypocrisy of liberals in terms of "walking the walk"...but the way the show went about it was so hamfisted and awkward.

I will watch that one episode (supposedly it's going to be episode 12), but only for Matt Bomer. He is fantastic and I would watch him in anything.

Matt Bomer to Play Andrew Rannells' Ex-Boyfriend on 'New Normal'

The casting extends Bomer's relationship with Ryan Murphy, as he guest starred on season three of Fox's "Glee."

White Collar's Matt Bomer is going for the Ryan Murphy trifecta.

The actor has booked a guest turn on Murphy's freshman gay family comedy The New Normal, the prolific showrunner announced Wednesday via Twitter.

Bomer, who guest starred on the third season of Murphy's Glee as Cooper Anderson, the older brother to Darren Criss' Blaine, will play the "sexy ex-boyfriend" to Andrew Rannells' Bryan on the freshman comedy. A specific airdate and episode count for Bomer's appearance was not immediately available.

Rannells and Justin Bartha co-star as a gay couple who turn to a surrogate (Georgia King) for help growing their family.

The series, which has received a full-season order at NBC, could be heading toward not only a childbirth but a wedding as the on-screen couple based (based on Murphy's life) got engaged during this week's episode.

Bomer also has a role in Murphy's upcoming big-screen adaptation of the Tony-winning drama The Normal Heart.

The star of USA Network's White Collar now only needs a spot on Murphy's American Horror Story: Asylum to complete the sweep.

I don't hate this? I found myself genuinely laughing a lot... but the whole premise is stretched soooooo thin anyway, anything vaguely off tends to give you whiplash.

Is it just me or wouldn't it be great to see a show with gay lead characters who aren't rolling in it... now the poor struggling artist has been done to death too... how about boring middle-class people? Or do they think people will switch off if the gays aren't able to throw a fabulous party at the drop of a hat?

Romney's less subtle campaign message: "Don't ask questions and just vote for me!!"
