Janet's legacy was always hampered by the "oh Michael's little sister" association, but it is crazy how the Superbowl incident unfortunately just killed her career and has overshadowed her entire legacy.

Janet Jackson at her height is probably my favorite artist from the names mentioned, but the problem for her is, you pick any Jam & Lewis production from that era, and it sounds the same. Musically, she was not very distinctive. I was just very much in love with that sound, as terribly dated as it sounds now.

This. I miss her. I wish she had a comeback of sorts but sadly it won't happen. It's actually quite sad that her legacy has really been overshadowed by the MJ connection and the Superbowl incident. There are people that actually don't know any Janet song? It infuriates me.

While Janet doesn't have the undeniable classics, she did have the albums. Control, Rhythm Nation 1814, janet. and The Velvet Rope are all very well regarded albums, which is more than you can say for artists like say Beyonce and even Whitney.

Janet's "Miss You Much," "That's the Way Love Goes," "If," "Love Will Never Do Without You," etc. should be classics, but they've been kind of forgotten in the mainstream. On the side of the coin, Whitney and Mariah's hits are still played quite a lot. For example, I still hear "Vision of Love," "Always Be My Baby," "Fantasy," "Hero," "Dreamlover," "Honey," etc. quite often for songs now decades old.

"Together Again" seems like her most well-known, still-in-public-conciousness-song to me, no?

I had to think twice before remembering what song this was. But I'm older, I actually bought her first records when they were released (yes, that old!). I'd say That's The Way Love Goes, though my personal favorite is Nasty.

This is so wrong and way off. I don't get this talk of Janet not having any classic songs. Janet has plenty of classic songs more so than she does albums. Her two best albums are Rhythm Nation and The Velvet Rope, her other albums don't even come close to these two. As for her singles man she has boatloads of songs people love, remember and still play today. Her videos were great also.

Listening to the Adult Contemporary stations at work here, I still hear 3-4 Janet songs getting some airplay:

    When I Think of You
    Escapade
    Let's Wait Awhile
    That's The Way Love Goes
    Any Time, Any Place
    (on the R&B AC station)

I'm not saying that she doesn't have classics. She has quite a few (The Pleasure Principle, Nasty, That's the Way Love Goes, All for You among others). She just doesn't have bonafide iconic songs in the vein that Whitney (I Will Always Love You/I Have Nothing) or Beyonce (Crazy in Love/Single Ladies) do. And this comes from someone who thinks that Janet is way more artistically inclined than the other two (that's why she has better albums).

Oh I just realized that will.i.am and britney's song is now up to #3 on itunes! I was pretty sure this would flop. I guess one should never underestimate the power of the Britney army.

When will you flops surrender to the power of Britishney?

The song's ridiculous, but my God is it fun. Heard it out last night and the place nearly had a meltdown.
