LOL. Alright, Susan.
I actually hear "Gangnum Style" a lot on the radio here. Unfortunately I still hear "One More Night" even more.

The Hot 100 formula is made up of sales, airplay and streaming numbers. I get that, because people who buy an album might not buy the single, too, but they still might like to listen to the song on the radio and counting airplay rankings is one way of measuring that kind of popularity. Basically, One More Night gets played a lot more than PSY because programmers are only going to play a Korean rap song on American radio so much. Billboard has said that there have been a couple of weeks where it was really close between GS and OMN for the #1 but ultimately OMN pulled it off. It just doesn't feel like a song that's been #1 for weeks and weeks compared to Call Me Maybe or We Found Love.
Diamonds finally sends Maroon 5 packing. Rihanna now surpasses Whitney, ties Madonna. Mariah just gets more and more desperate.
It's only a shame because of how easy it is to get frequent #1s these days, compared to Madonna's and Mariaha's prime. Of her 12 #1s, I only begrudge Rihanna a few of them.
Will Oscar have Riva Fever?
I actually really like "Diamonds." It's every other song from Rihanna between this and "Umbrella" that is basically awful. It's sad that she has joined Whitney-Madonna ranks, though.

Yeah, Oscar, I know. Like these people had Academy Award nominations in third grade.
Well the annoying thing is that of the 12 #1s with her name on them, only ONE had any creative input from her! The one about wanting only guys who are big and hard enough for her.
Most of them also have another artist on them.

'Diamonds'? Really?
Better than 'Gangnam Style,' I guess.
It's a sad day, indeed. I can't seriously believe that Rihanna has more #1s than Whitney or Janet and the same ammount as Madonna and is easily gonna take over Mariah's record.Shameful.
Well, at least the #1 from those legends have pretty much become classics and have a place in music history. No one will really remember most of Rihanna's #1s in like 5 years time.
To be fair, Mariah was the queen of chart manipulation back in the day and while she does have some classics, her 16 numbers 1s are more forgettable than Janet's 10 or Madonna's 12 tbh.
For Rihanna, the only number 1s that didn't make sense were the Loud singles and the T.I. collab, not to mention S.O.S., Umbrella, Love the Way You Lie, Rude Boy and We Found Love already feel like classics.
Um, no? Mariah doesn't really have just "some classics". I can agree with the fact that Touch My Body or Don't Forget About Us went #1 due to chart manipulation. Still it's hard to argue that songs like Vision of Love, Love Takes Time, Someday, I Don't Wanna Cry, Emotions, I'll Be There, Dreamlover, Hero, Fantasy, One Sweet Day, Always be my Baby, Honey, My all, Heartbreaker or We Belong Together aren't timeless classics.
And about the Rihanna comparision, I will just second what Critix said. There's no way one can call those songs "classics" yet. We won't know how they will stand the test of time but I highly doubt they will be as revered as said Mariah singles or Janet's, Madonna's or Whitney's, for that matter. I mean, S.O.S or Only Girl?
I read an article last week that said the music industry is anxiously eyeing Asia and South America, as they expect that in 10 years some of the biggest names in music will come from those parts of the world.
I feel like Gangnam Style will be an exception rather than a jump off point.

Prayers for a successful Girls' Generation crossover.
But yeah, I think this is nothing more than a novelty hit. Actual KPop would probably scare people in the US.
Great. Now who's going to watch Sunday Rose on SAG night??
