Bah. I was rooting for Jimmy Woo, Carol Danvers, and Abigail Brand! Also, for Titus Welliver and Lizzy Caplan to reprise their roles from that Item 47 short on the Avengers DVD (possible for Welliver, unlikely for Caplan because of Masters of Sex). Also, if HIMYM ends, Cobie Smulders!
They could possibly pop up as semi-recurring characters. I suppose Whedon wanted original characters that he can control (and kill off to his glee) without Marvel mandates on Jimmy Woo or whatever.

Thing is if this doesn't become a weekly anthology where one week we get Punisher, the next Namor and then Heroes For Hire and instead SHIELD is just, you know a regular TV show without being so gimmick hitched, will fans turn on the show?

The funny thing was, when this idea was first pitched by the Internet, later reported and later confirmed, I kept thinking of the Adam West BATMAN show in how fans apparently want notable talent/stars to play these guest star characters and the show be built around that. (You know the Internet would orgasm if say Wesley Snipes played Blade in one episode)

    So does this mean...

    (1) This series takes place before AVENGERS?
    (2) Its a flashback appearance/prologue?
    (3) Vision?

I was already gonna watch it, but yay: Ming Na has been cast in a lead role!

I liked her on ER, and there are so few prominent East Asians on TV. I know Hawaii/Elementary have at least one, but they're CBS procedurals and mediocrely rated; and the awesome Sandra Oh on Grey's Anatomy is on a show I got over long ago, and she's supporting.

Ang Lee - The only 2x Bafta/DGA/Oscar-Winning Director!
Meryl on Oscars: Y’see these little babies? These are my best f***ing friends
and they never let me down. Try to get ‘em away from me and I’ll eat you alive.

    Pilot starts shooting Mid-January.

    But here's the notable bit:

"S.H.I.E.L.D." will be independent from "The Avengers" film, and people who haven’t seen the Marvel movies can jump right in and understand the storylines. There will generally be new characters and agents who are not superheroes, and even though they are a large organization, they will be underdogs since they still exist in that superhero universe. Clark Gregg is playing Agent Phil Coulson, the same role he has played in "Iron Man I & II," "Thor," and "The Avengers". The series will center on his character.
    Wha?!?!

The folks from The Hollywood Reporter have just revealed two new Agents for ABC's Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D. TV pilot. Actress Elizabeth Henstridge and actor Iain De Caestecker have joined the Joss Whedon-created prospective TV series, filling the roles of Agent Gemma Simmons & Agent Leo Fitz.

An early casting call described the two S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents as being “like a brother and sister who always bicker and annoy one another. They came up together and are masters in their fields: Fitz is good with weapons and gadgets while Simmons is into science. And during the show, Agent Simmons and Agent Fitz will apparently be given the nickname “Fitz-Simmons.”

The literal only chance this has of being good is if Natalie Morales is cast in it.

The only chance? Oh yee of little faith in Whedon. Hopefully this will be his first show to last beyond a season since ANGEL.

Goddamn right I have no faith in Whedon. But I'm not willing to have this argument again, because it'll be twenty very obsessive fans versus me, and I don't like being the subject of nerd dogpiles! I am a nerd, but not a Whedon nerd. Still haven't seen The Avengers, might never! SUCK IT WHORES.

It's alright I can't say I'm a Whedon nerd either or at least no where close to his fandom's adoration online.

As a nerd though, I hope this is good. Imagine all those Marvel characters that would never be in a movie, and able to incorporate them into that movie/TV universe.

    Like disco superheroine Dazzler.

Well, I kind of find comic books exhausting. I can't really explain why they hold no appeal to me except to say that death is cheap, everything is a reboot away, oh, and I'm not fond of superheroes. Whedon's entire body of work is superheroes. To tie back into Natalie Morales, the one piece of superhero fiction I can unabashedly endorse as wonderful is The Middleman. I'd like to see an honest discussion on the psychology of the superhero genre, but it will not happen because largely the two types of opinions on it here are BURN IT ALL and IT RULES.

THR is reporting that "Nashville" star Chloe Bennet has been cast in Joss Whedon's upcoming television show Marvel's S.H.I.E.L.D. Her character is "Skye" and she's described as "a confident woman who is slightly obsessed with superhero culture and the shadow organizations that exist within it. She's edgy and can out-talk anyone with her unflappable nature."

    OK.
