That said, Pyramids is definitely a standout, and probably my track of the year.
This is kinda how I felt when I first listened to it. Doing some reading on how the album came to be and especially Ocean's coming out really changed how I listened to it the second time around and that's when I felt like it really hit another level. Not saying that research is required to like the album -- I think the songs are really strong on their own -- but having that extra bit of knowledge really makes a difference.
"This is not your daddy's HBO version of Mandela," said Weinstein. "This is the kickass version of Mandela."

If I just want to listen to the songs, of course I'll skip the interludes. But I think they're an essential part of the album as various snapshots of LA.
Oh, I completely agree. If I'm looking at it from an artistic point-of-view, the interludes are what elevates the album from being great, tremendously produced R&B to something special, something epic. But they're not particularly great to just listen to as individual music.

"Fertilizer, I'll take bullshit if that's all you got" is maybe my favorite lyric on the album, though. LOL.

I like it! I think it's a good album, but just not this otherworldly experience (at least for me). I admire it more than I adore it, I suppose.

EDIT: I guess this was probably a response to the other poster. Whoops.

I had a friend who told me she didn't like Channel Orange as much as other people did, but then again, she heard it last month. Most of us heard it immediately after release. I'm not saying it's right or even a reason for what's happening here, but honestly, expectations of a masterpiece based on the raving of others - which Channel Orange, for me, isn't, despite being absolutely fantastic - can really dampen a reaction to anything,

Well for me it was other way around. I listened to it on its release, along with everyone here, and in fact my initial reaction was more positive than the current one.

I agree wholeheartedly, but I did attempt to listen to it when it first came out and...yeah.

Well, that's the difference between you and I. I don't like to make these type of judgements - at least not since I've been a continuous victim of these kind of snarky and hip remarks. And you are usually one of the attackers here.

It's called having an opinion, which is somehow criminal in this day and age, it appears.

I'm sorry if the coming out letter in form of an album didn't hit me at all. God, I must be really ear def or something (I still liked Pyramids)...
P.S. - and I'm an outspoken gay, just so you don't call the homophobia argument.

P.S. 2 - I did feel this same prejudice the same a couple of years ago with the Kanye West album. Oh well... But you know what? There are more people who didn't like this/that album. Live with it.

P.S. 3 - I listened to this right when it came out.

I am liking he Churchill's Change EP. They are compared to Avett Brothers, Little Big Town and such but I found them better than them. Not only Churchill sound more genuine but they incorporate more pop and rock in their americana in quite catchy way. The song 'Ark In The Flood' even reminded me of ABBA, lol. I haven't checked out their debut yet.

    Right?

I think they're pretty much done, though, outside of a Lindsay Lohan stalking story every now and then.
