Recently I've decided that Wilder's "The Apartment" really belongs in my Top 10. Before that I had a solid Top 8 and different films I considered for the last two spots, but now I think and feel TA is really as rock-solid in my love for my Top 10 as the rest. I'm also considering I like Offret even more than I thought so I've moved it up one spot, and sometimes I think it actually should be my #1. So now it would be:
1- Tokyo Story or Magnificent Ambersons
2- Magnificent Ambersons or Tokyo Story
3- The Searchers
4- Offret
5- The Philadelphia Story
6- The Leopard
7- Gone with the Wind
8- Porco Rosso
9- The Apartment
10- .... Something between Madame de, Children of Paradise or The Passion of Joan of Arc.
Personal list.
2001: A Space Odyssey (Kubrick, 1968)
Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (Charles, nahz, iz BORAT. ALL BORAT, iz a borat, 2006)
Citizen Kane (Welles, 1940)
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Gondry, 2004)
The Great Dictator (Chaplin, 1941)
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (Forman, 1975)
Rebecca (Hitchcock, 1941)
Schindler's List (Spielberg, 1993)
The Seventh Seal (Bergman, 1957)
Spirited Away/Grave of Fireflies (Miyazaki, 2001/Takahata, 1988)
Honorable mentions: Vertigo, Battleship Potemkin, Tokyo Story, Annie Hall, Gone with the Wind, Blade Runner, Lord of the Rings Trilogy, La Passion de Jeanne d'Arc (The Passion of Joan of Arc), Amour, Kokuhaku (Confessions)
I cheated, but I seriously could not pick. And I shit you not about Borat. I thought that being 16, I'm allowed to make liberties and replace Vertigo or Potemkin with Borat.
