That's exactly what Debra Messing's last show was averaging ten years ago.

ONLY 10 EASY STEPS AWAY FROM OSCAR!

1.) Bankrupt small, independent distributor via massive Oscar campaign. Failing that, proceed to...
2.) Cash in King Kong residual checks to pay for FYC advertisements from Kinko's.
3.) To avoid getting sent straight to VOD, attach entire film as a "trailer" to another film people actually want to see. And then...
4.) Try to do it Lahti-style and win Academy Award for Best Short Film.
5.) Avoid telling a story that everyone already knows by adding exciting details and/or gratuitous editing.
    6. Carefully and patiently weather the wrath of film critics/the royal family/the tabloids/Diana-maniacs for trying to add said details. (Good luck!)
    7. Find all of the boxes with "August: Osage County" screeners and slip in self-made cam bootleg from premiere screening at Lowes...the hardware store.
(Not Loews, the movie theater -- too expensive!)
    8. Trick octogenarian Oscar voters into thinking that you are, in fact, a real princess. (Hey, it worked on Eva Marie Saint!)
    9. On Oscar night, have camera crews come to Nicole's house, Joan Crawford-style, so you can win and keep your day job.
    10. OSCAR!

    LOL, NBC.

    Thursday, 10PM: 0.9 demo
    Monday, 10PM: 1.1 demo
    Tuesday, 10PM: 1.1 demo

Like, why even bother trying anymore? They should just air Dateline every night.

I wonder if The Voice will still pull in the same numbers with Usher and Shakira. I think, of the judges, most people tune in for Adam and Blake, so it shouldn't really matter that much. But if that starts failing, NBC is seriously in so much shit.

NBC is basically ABC almost a decade ago. They had Millionaire, they had football, and that was pretty much it. However, then they had a LEGENDARY development/promotion season, debuting Desperate Housewives + Grey's Anatomy + Lost within months of each other, to huge ratings, huge acclaim, and huge awards prospects. I don't think is likely to repeat, but I hope NBC at least gets one scripted hit that can prove to stand on its own (unlike Revolution).

Anyway, last night's disasters (aside from NBC as a whole): Idol went down 16% to a 4.6 - about the level it was at last Thursday vs. Big Bang. It's also down 25% vs. the equivalent episode from last season. Looks like as I predicted, it'll be The Walking Dead vs. The Big Bang Theory for the season's #1 non-football show (I'm guessing Walking Dead.).
Modern Family went down 10% to a 3.8. If it doesn't adjust up, the last time it was lower was Thanksgiving 2010.
Nashville went down 11% to 1.7 and finds itself in the danger zone once again. It lost to NBC's Chicago Fire (which was down 14%).
Criminal Minds went down 13% to a 2.7.

AI finally not being the biggest non-sporting show of the season would be pretty awesome. The no-repeats thing gives it an advantage over TBBT, but the auditions phase isn't even over yet, so it still has a ways to fall. Also, that a cable show (On AMC no less!) might be the biggest scripted show of the season among 18-49ers is kind of epic.

    Another big night.

The hour I was most curious about was 10. After the Super Bowl slot, how much did Elementary go up by? Oh, about NONE, to a 2.3. Meanwhile, Scandal ties its high at a 2.8, BUT it's had a 6-episode super serialized, super exciting arc, and next week they're time-jumping 10 months and going back to Cases of the Week, so we'll see if people jump ship. Also last night's episode pissed a lot of fans off.

The Juggernaut Big Bang Theory was SO huge (6.1) that it led Two and a Half Men to TIE with American Idol (at 4.1). Oh, Idol, how far you've fallen (-29% vs. equivalent episode from last season). This also makes Elementary's performance look worse.
Big Bang hit a 6.0 only once in its 5 seasons; it's done it 3 more times just this year. I hate the show, but its success is very impressive.
I think Idol *just might* lose to the fall edition of The Voice. In Voice's 4th week, it got 4.6, while in its 5th week it got 4.8 & 4.5. Idol's 4th week? 4.6 & 4.1. And Idol generally peaks in the audition phases.

Possibly good news for Community fans: 1.8 (vs. 2.1, 2.0, 1.1, and 0.7 for NBC's other shows last night). But last season it went from 2.2 to 1.3 in less than a month, so we'll see.

Grammys will probably be #1 for this week, but TBBT could end up being the #1 program in the Demo next week. When was the last time a regular CBS program achieved that feat? Or a sitcom for that matter?

LMAO at Do No Harm. Those are only barely better than Beauty and the Beast on The CW.

I watched Do No Harm on demand last week, and it was pretty delightfully awful, but I don't think I could ever subject myself to it again.

Two and a Half Men: The Reboot only managed to hold a 6 rating thrice with all the hype/promo for Kutcher. This year Big Bang has already gotten a 6 rating thrice, even against American Idol. The New Series premiere did beat football the once.

But the week ending May 6, 2012, Big Bang & Wednesday Idol tied at 4.7, which is impressive enough.
Oh, and the week ending 10/23/11, an extra-strong Modern Family beat an extra-week football game. Overlooked that one.

ETA: I think Big Bang’s current season may become the first scripted season to hit 4 6.0’s (and quite possibly more than 4) in the last 5 years. In the 10-11 season, there may in fact have been zero scripted TV shows to hit a 6 at all. The last season with 6.0-happy shows featured S4s of Grey, House, Housewives, and Lost.

I was just assuming that nothing beat the 10.7 two and a half men got for that season premiere.

The Grammys didn't affect The Walking Dead, which obliterated its own record with 12.3 million viewers (plus 4.3 million more in later showings) and the best demo of any drama on TV now.

On Revenge: That's what the writers get for 13 consecutive episodes of approximately ZERO PLOT MOVEMENT, character assassinations, and saddling the remaining interesting characters with sucky nonsensical stupid storylines and sidekicks. I think the writers saw that S1 did well, with ratings & audience reception, so decided they could get complacent since they would have a few years to get to the actual main storyline. Maybe the low ratings can get their asses into gear.

Meanwhile, Grammys were big but down, and The Walking Dead hits another high. It got an effing 6.1 rating! That's higher than ANY episode of The Big Bang Theory's first 5 seasons. And BBT is now poised to be the first show in 5 years to hit a 6.0 four times in a single season. The top-rated broadcast drama episode of the 2011-2012 season was a mere 4.5. The only other scripted show besides these 2 to even average a 4 is Modern Family's 4.6. Mind-boggling.
This is so much more interesting than American Idol wins the week, American Idol wins the next week, American Idol wins the next week...

What was the last drama to hit a 6.0 demo rating at all? What an incredible number.

Aside from the Super Bowl post-shows, apparently it's the highest rated drama ep since a 2009 Grey's Anatomy.
