Ugh, there's going to be a sitcom holocaust this spring.

    Wow.

Shark Tank continues to be pretty fascinating, but most of those numbers are depressing. The fashion show was almost equal in viewers to Happy Endings, Don't Trust the B, Ben & Kate and The Mindy Project combined.

It's going to be a cancellation bloodbath in the spring. The nets (ABC, FOX, NBC) better have something good in development.

I think Mindy probably sticks around, right? The only Fox sitcom out of that block that I see getting the axe is Ben & Kate (and I don't even know about that).

Don't Trust the B is probably gone. I can see ABC sticking with Happy Endings.

Not sure what to think of The New Normal.

WEDNESDAY: 10 o'clock cable show Duck Dynasty tied for the #1-rated show for the ENTIRE night with Criminal Minds, more than doubling cable runner-up American Horror Story's rating. The new Jersey Shore?

Downton Abbey's airing Sundays, January 6 to February 17.

CBS announces midseason schedule. Zero faith in Golden Boy, which gets a Friday slot.
Comedy Friend Me was going to be the other new show, but sadly the creator committed suicide so it looks like the show's not going on.

Chicago Fire is turning into a small success for NBC. Demo could be a little higher, though.

I think it actually got bumped up a tenth in the final ratings. But it's weird that it started below Nashville in both total viewers and the demo and now that tables have turned.

Yeah, Chicago Fire might be NBC's best kept little secret.

Nashville's number continues to make me want to cry.

Non-cancelled 10 o'clock network drama ratings so far this season, minus the top episode & the bottom episode - mostly important to adjust for big premieres & unusual scheduling:
    Good - 3.03 Revolution
    Decent - 2.44 CSI
    2.30 Elementary
    2.09 Hawaii Five-O
    2.03 Scandal
    2.00 Castle
    Bad - 1.92 Nashville
    1.83 Parenthood
    1.79 Mentalist
    1.78 Vegas
    1.72 Chicago Fire
    1.42 Blue Bloods (Fri)

I actually expect just about all of those Tuesday comedies to survive. Ben & Kate is probably dead, and Don't Trust The B----, too. But those are the only two that I really think are big bets for cancellation. Honestly, I think we're moving into a new era, where the four networks are at rough parity and are just trying to hold onto their big hits and then come up with other assets they can monetize in one way or another. We're probably only a year or two away from seeing the first renewal for a show with a sub-1.0 in the demo.

Nielsen's official list of "this year's" top basic cable shows (so no Game of Thrones or True Blood) is on http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/201...-suits/161536/
The T10 includes only 3 scripted shows - Walking Dead 8 million 18-49 (up 2 mil), Sons of Anarchy 4.1 mil (up half a mil), American Horror Story 3.0 mil (even with last year).
The T5 includes shows following 3 fame-hungry groups I thought no one cared about anymore - Jersey guidos, teen moms, and Kardashians.

ETA: LOL on the 13th NBC was ranked the #7 network of the night - after the big 3, NFLN, Univision, and TNT.

Homeland's finale got around 2.3 million viewers, up from 1.7 for the first finale. Comparably, the finale for the season after Mad Men's 1st Drama Emmy got 2.3 million viewers, up from 1.75 for the previous finale.

For top 25 individual cable showings: 14 football, 7 Walking Dead, 3 Hatfields & McCoys, 1 basketball

CBS and Fox were the only networks to air new programming last night, and CBS won big:

    8:00 - The Big Bang Thoery - 18.98 million (6.0)
    8:30 - Two and a Half Men - 15.49 (4.6)
    9:00 - Person of Interest - 16.14 (3.4)
    10:00 - Elementary - 11.36 (2.5)

Those are series highs for both TBBT and Person of Interest. It's actually the first time the former has ever broken 18 million viewers, and might be the first time it's broken 19 million in the final numbers. And I'm surprised CBS went with Elementary instead of Person of Interest for the post-Super Bowl slot - Elementary has been doing well enough, but POI seems to have a lot more potential.

POI not only has more potential in ratings but storyline as well. Seems like they could've had a really good episode for it.

Eh, Person of Interest is at about the same level as fellow 9 o'clock CBS crime dramas NCISLA/Criminal Minds despite having the juggernaut comedy hour as a lead-in. Elementary at 10 showed a visible edge against Vegas or Hawaii in the first half of the season.
