But I don't think it's necessarily critics that might help to keep the show afloat so much as televised awards. Good Wife is constantly being called "broadcast's best drama" and snatches up more noms than the rest of broadcast's dramas combined. It gives CBS a certain prestige. And I don't anticipate awards bodies falling for Elementary.
It also helps that CBS Sundays at 9 & 10 are sacrificial lamb slots - the network would have to find other shows they don't mind seeing fail if they cancel Good Wife.
But Good Wife is unlikely to crack the Emmy drama race again this year without strong critical notices. It already had them in season three, and it missed out. So if its fourth season is a big step down (as most critics would have it), it's in an even more perilous position. I still think a final season of 13 episodes is likely (I also think CBS will bring back HIMYM for 16 or so), but I have trouble seeing the show running beyond that.

    It can't be cheap, either.
I imagine Demi will get the axe and Britney will get a golden parachute with the opportunity to exit gracefully. I guess Simon could back to the UK show, but I can also see him going down with this ship. And really, what else does LA Reid have to do?

Great. Now who's going to watch Sunday Rose on SAG night??

Fox has already renewed it for a third season, so I imagine it will be back, though I wouldn't be surprised if it's stripped down from what it is right now. Canceling it at this point would be more expensive than just pushing ahead with another season, for a number of reasons.

Lets see how Good Wife does post-football. It's hard to gauge right now.

I also don't get why the reviews have been harsh. The obvious plot aside I've enjoy this season as much as three. I blame David Sims and his AVClub cronies.

I think right now, the producers are OVER-reacting to the reviews of Kalinda/Nick by ending the story before they were planning on doing so. That's given the last two episodes a listless feel, because they don't have the narrative drive the show usually does.

Hmm interesting. I didn't know that. You'd have to assume that some pretty radical changes are coming.

Well here's a list of the major broadcast drama Emmy noms this year:
    Actress, Harry's Law (Gone)
    Actress, Good Wife
    Sup Actress, Good Wife
    Sup Actress, Good Wife
    It also won Guest Actress.
And it isn't like there's a plethora of good, Emmy-friendly roles for women out there. So I can totally see next year's Emmys turning out similarly.

As for Monday, Revolution was about even with last week despite Voice's drop. Still on top with 10 o'clock, new shows, and NBC scripted shows.
And for the first season ever, How I Met Your Mother fell below a 3.0 multiple times before April (For whatever reason, HIMYM usually drops near the end of each season.). I wonder if either it or 2.5 Men will be departing...

I suspect Monica Potter will get in for Parenthood this season, but, yeah, The Good Wife's acting category dominance will help it.

Really? Has she submitted as Lead or Supporting, I can't remember. I would say both she and Krause deserve to get in this year, which is crazy because Potter's cancer storyline is the only time I haven't wanted to punch that character in the face like 108 times.

I believe everyone went supporting last season except for Peter Krause?

It's tough to say. The Emmys have mostly ignored Parenthood, which seems up their alley but obviously isn't. But the cancer storyline is highly visible, AND Emmy voters love that kind of shit.

I've been so surprised that it hasn't been able to be an Emmy darling for the networks. It probably would be if it had higher ratings, but still.

Lauren Graham should have won by now. And Mae Whitman should have at least been nominated...

First nomination for parenthood Jason Ritter. Next one Monica potter in a very Emmy story which has reminded me of Patricia wettigs on thirtysomething or just any major disease arc which got nominations. When Anthony Edwards got a brain tumor on er he got back into the sag race. But it's definitely more of an in for parenthood. And even with it's low ratings it's Beating Vegas 18-49 - driving it right off the air.

It does feel like the show is really building critical buzz this season in a way that it hadn't before. Perhaps the perception among critics that The Good Wife has fallen off has had them anointing Parenthood as the new best network drama?

Well at least for 2011, based on Metacritic's aggregate of critics' annual T10 lists, it was Good Wife (18 votes) then Revenge (9). Parenthood got 2 votes and Fringe got 4. But that was last year.

Tuesday: Only 5 shows hit a 2, including New Girl but just barely in a series low...might it fall below a 2 next week? Fox is somewhat of a disaster; none of their shows have maintained a 3. Night is topped by The Voice with numbers pretty much identical to last year's results shows.

Oh, shit balls, those numbers for Happy Endings and Don't Trust the B give me a knot in my stomach. Why did all the networks decide to dump their sitcoms at 9 on Tuesdays!? :shakes fists:

There are going to be a lot of cancellations this season, aren't there?
