I don't know what my top 10 would be, but I do know that Certified Copy is my #1 by a fairly healthy margin. So suck it, McT.

Wait, the best American film of 2012 that Moviefreak feels such a big passion for wouldn't be Top 5 in either 2010 or 2011?

I'm glad Mysteries of Lisbon has grown so much on you, cdmc. I remember you didn't love it at first, no?

That you just proved the lack of passion I talk about. I have seen very few feeling more passionately for Lincoln than you and guany. Yet, if it had come in 2010 or 2011, it wouldn't even make your top 5.

Listen, I like the film a lot. I just put it into my honorable mentions category and it'll most likely be in my top 5 of the year. But, all of this doesn't matter because we're not predicting my personal awards, we're talking about the AMPAS and if Lincoln is a film that resonated with me, it will definitely resonate with them. I'm still confused how all this shows a lack of passion, but ok.

But really, let's not derail this thread.

    I haven't done this yet?

Tyler's Top Ten Of The Twenty Tens
    1. Shame (Steve McQueen, 2011)
    2. The Turin Horse (Béla Tarr & Ágnes Hranitzky, 2011)
    3. Hahaha (Hong Sang-soo, 2011)
    4. The Master (Paul Thomas Anderson, 2012)
    5. Aurora (Cristi Puiu, 2011)
    6. Blue Valentine (Derek Cianfrance, 2010)
    7. Bal / Honey (Semih Kaplanoglu, 2010)
    8. The Illusionist (Sylvain Chomet, 2010)
    9. The Robber (Benjamin Heisenberg, 2010)
    10. Seven Psychopaths (Martin McDonagh, 2012)

I kind of want Enter The Void in there, but it's more that I love Noe's direction rather than find the film to have some kind of point - or like it left me feeling something profound. With The Turin Horse once the film ended I was like "Yeah, life is beautiful". Tarr reaffirms what is good with the world by showing how bleak it can be/has been. Noe's really cool, and eye-opening, in the way that your eyes are literally wide-open while watching his films. That's why I've made this list, too:

Tyler's Top Ten Directorial Achievements Of The 2010s:
    1. Steve McQueen – Shame
    2. Béla Tarr & Ágnes Hranitzky – The Turin Horse
    3. Tomas Alfredson – Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy
    4. Gaspar Noe – Enter the Void
    5. Terrence Malick – The Tree Of Life
    6. Paul Thomas Anderson - The Master
    7. Cristi Puiu - Aurora
    8. Hong Sang-soo - Hahaha (I love the bit of music he plays at the end!)
    9. Sean Durkin – Martha Marcy May Marlene
    10. Semih Kaplanoglu – Honey (I love the look, but I am disillusioned by how it ends...)

    That's all.
