Charlize Theron in Young Adult is one of my favorite things ever. A damn shame she couldn't break the final five. However, it's really unsurprising given the nature of her character. At least she was physically ugly in Monster. She was a gorgeous monster in Young Adult. Not sure I buy her making the final line-up any year with that role (except maybe 2005 since she could make it in with dreck like North Country).

Also, I thought Julia Roberts was best in show in Closer.

As loaded at 2011 was for Lead Actress, Theron is my winner.

With Weinstein behind Nightingale/Low Life, Cotillard is definitely getting in.

Yeeeaaah, Cotillard is DEFINITELY getting in every year, just like she did with Nine, Public Enemies, and Inception.

I agree. the only true buzzed performance she had after her oscar winning one was Nine, don't make her out to be another Kidman / Knightley when she clearly will be quite successful if she manages to get nominated for two french performances.

There's something wrong with this signature.
Can you find that ONE mistake?

It looks pretty exciting/crazy with so many previous winners in baity releases.

    Meryl Streep, August: Osage County
    Nicole Kidman, Grace of Monaco
    Marion Cotillard, Lowlife
    Kate Winslet, Labor Day
    Sandra Bullock, Gravity
    Julia Roberts, August: Osage County

and then maybe Blanchett and even Lawrence (if she wins, that is). Thompson could also contend, but seems more likely to go supporting.

don't we always start with so many winners? I mean those are actresses that recently won an oscar and are working. of course they have project out nearly every year until it gets pushed back to another one (Bullock), her performance reduced to supporting (Hunt) or simply it not being all that (Streep) and we'll lose one after the other. with that being said the former winners / nominees are doing pretty well this year. Can next year be the same?

No, next year is most definitely unusual even this far out. Some will definitely fail, obviously, but this is special.

I've been here for like 6 years, next year's line-up is definitely unique.

What if next year's line-up winds up with just Streep and a bunch of losers/first-timers? We don't even know next month's lineup for sure yet.

One interesting lineup was 1945, which included the winners of 1942, 3, & 4. It would be like if we had Natalie Portman + Meryl Streep + Sandra Bullock together this year.

Ang Lee - The only 2x Bafta/DGA/Oscar-Winning Director!
Meryl on Oscars: Y’see these little babies? These are my best f***ing friends
and they never let me down. Try to get ‘em away from me and I’ll eat you alive.

I am confused - which lineup are you talking about? in which year was the ceremony?
yeah the 1940s were pretty much dominated by the big studio stars in the best actress category. there is simply no winner besides Ginger Rogers who was not nominated at least twice in this category that decade, something that is simply not possible in our days anymore.

    1945. Included Garson ('42), Jones ('43), and Bergman ('44).

Shirley MacLaine (and Christopher Plummer) should be added to the list of Oscar winners that can get nominated next year. Elsa & Fred is a remake of a spanish film and both characters are baity as hell.

    Jali Awards Best Actress 1920-1925
1920 Tora Teje, Erotikon // 1921 Pola Negri, The wildcat
1922 Anna May Wong, The toll of the sea // 1923 Marion Davies, Little old New York
1924 Marie Prevost, The marriage circle // 1925 Gloria Swanson, Stage struck

Lady Winslet has already started her campaign for 'Labor Day'.

She just got married - to a guy named Rocknroll, no less. Bun in the oven by next year's Oscars?

Showing Anne Hathaway how it's done!
