Though I've already dismissed fun and the punkish/rebellious novelty of We are young and rest of the record wore of quickly but last night I stumbled upon the title track while shuffling and it is quite good and powerful. In fact might be the best thing about the whole project (after the album cover though, that is cool.)

    Meanwhile, tonight is

Did you get to see them live? That's how I chanced upon them (they opened for Sleigh Bells). So good!

I've been road-tripping across the country and getting into a lot of newer music. Some observations:

    - I can't believe it's taken me this long to listen to Die Antwoord. What an insanely bizarre and tremendous experience. I'm in love.

    - The Niki and the Dove record is awesome.

    - I actually really like the Norah Jones album. It's a fun diversion for her. "Miriam" is so bitchy and a huge 'fuck you.'

    - The Nicki Minaj album is so strange. Half of it is amazing ("Come On A Cone?!") and the other half is quite generic and boring.

    - Jack White is essentially a genius.

Umm. Apparently Adele's 21 has bypassed THRILLER to become the all-time best selling album in the UK.

    Movies recently reviewed by RRA:

    Fast & Furious 6 (2013)
    Star Trek (2009)
    Pain & Gain (2013)
    Oblivion (2013)
    Jurassic Park III (2001)

No! Hopefully they come with Sleigh Bells when they continue their tour.

Also, Azealia Banks' rap in the "Blue Jeans" remix is one of the best moments of the year and will definitely remain as such. Just, wow. As a whole the track is very good - but her verse is just...phenom.

I love "Sex Yeah" because she further explores what creates the fetishized Katy Perry's of the world:

If history could set you free,
from who you were supposed to be,
if sex in our society didn't tell a girl who she would be,
'cause all my life I've tried to find
    what history has given me

acting naughtier than we really are.

It's too bad that most critics didn't "get" one of the most ambitious pop albums of the year, but I have little faith in them after they randomly trashed Lana. And if anyone's skeptical about Marina's abilities, check out her debut album The Family Jewels.

I'm not sure I buy this Gaga-"I'm intentionally mediocre" approach that Marina takes at certain points of Electra Heart....

Don't Hold Your Breath is the best song of 2011, I can't think of a song that even comes close. It is perfection.

There are a handful of albums above Thriller there so it hasn't made it yet, and I doubt it will reach Queen's Greatest Hits.
