Unfortunately that probably won't even help much since it's opening in limited release on Dec. 21. That said, I am very curious to see how it performs, since it doesn't really have the same appeal that most disaster movies do (Watching shit get trashed vs. watching A FAMILY STRUGGLE TO SURVIVE NATURE'S BITCHINESS), and Summit is not very good with limited releases (They've done only seven, and only three of them made over $10 million).

My thoughts on this:
First of all, I went into it completley uninterested because I wanted to see ZD30 instead, but I was completley drawn into this film. I thought it was the perfect length and the pacing was perfect. It never dragged or got boring. I thought Naomi Watts was absolutely amazing and gave one of the best performances ever. I'd be surprised if she didn't win the Oscar for this, cause I loved the performance and I now think she's a shoe-in to get it. I didn't enjoy Ewan McGregor as much as other people seem to.
The negatives: I really thought it was unnecessary to show that shot of her leg injury. I honestly felt like throwing up, and I kept looking away because I didn't know if they were gonna show it again. I also didn't like that the score seemed sooo sentimental at times.
Overall, this is the kind of movie that I thought was great and would love to recommend to my mother, but there is no way I can because of the gruesome visuals and the tense disaster scenes. But I really enjoyed the effects. I can't decide what I was more impressed with; the crash sequence in Flight, or the tsunami scenes in this film.
No, you're right, a Watts upset would smell.
I don't know about a win, a lot of things would need to fall into place for her to have a realistic shot (BP nomination strong box office ect), but she is a near lock in my mind to be nominated.
Well, that's really hard to say because I really enjoy Jessica Chastain and want so bad for her to blow everyone away in ZD30, and not only be nominated, but to WIN best actress this year...... however I haven't seen the movie yet. So assuming after I see the film I love her as much as I want to, my personal line up, ignoring all reviews and Oscar talk, would be:
1. Jessica Chastain
2. Naomi Watts
3. Viola Davis
4. Sigourney Weaver
5. Jennifer Lawrence
NGNG: Emma Stone and Katherine Heigl.
Realistically though, I think the field will be:
1. Jessica Chastain
2. Jennifer Lawrence
3. Emmanuelle Riva
4. Quvenzhane Wallis
5. Naomi Watts

Movieline - Alison Willmore - Dec 6, 2012 - 65
The latter half of The Impossible is so disappointingly movie-ish, tying a bow on the events after portraying them too vividly to allow them to be wrapped so neatly. It wrings out tears with an industrious efficiency that leaves you feeling manhandled after the exhilarating, terrifying footage that's unfolded before.
