But Only God Forgives will have to be as good as Drive to be considered for awards, even Supporting Actress. Drive made a big splash with the critics and on the internet, and the industry (AMPAS, SAG, BAFTA) totally ignored its one chance at a nod in a major category. It might be something against Brooks - the BAFTAs gave the film quite a few nods including Picture, Director and Sup. Actress - or maybe it's just because he didn't deserve it.
I know I've got a big ego, I really don't know why it's such a big deal, though.

    Cranston>>>>>Brooks

but I actually think that Drive as a whole could help KST considering that Refn is now on their radar and was, to the viewpoint of many, snubbed himself.

Have people seen Refn's other films? Bronson and Valhalla Rising? Sorry, but I can't see the Academy touching his films in any of the major categories... at least not yet. Give him about 10 or so years, and perhaps they'll at least be lukewarm to his work (like Cronenberg in 05 and 07).

Bronson was amazing and should have netted Tom Hardy an Oscar

I haven't seen anything else from him, outside of Drive

But I see what you're saying.

If the film is released this year she can get the bafta nomination rather easily because they love her, that's something at last.

    Jali Awards Best Actress 1920-1925
1920 Tora Teje, Erotikon // 1921 Pola Negri, The wildcat
1922 Anna May Wong, The toll of the sea // 1923 Marion Davies, Little old New York
1924 Marie Prevost, The marriage circle // 1925 Gloria Swanson, Stage struck

I think that one of the main things that people held against Brooks was his small amount of screentime. If Thomas gets similar acclaim and is seen as having a more substantial role she may fare better, but who knows.

Dolly in Anna Karenina is an ok part, its really no that baity. I would say that Anna and Kitty are the most baitest of roles. Alicia Vikander who got great notices in A Royal Affair is playing the part of Kitty. She needs to be listed on this poll, as Wright the director, has stated that the Anna Karenina films of the past have seemed to focus the film more on Anna, than on Kitty and Levin's relationship which is just as central as Anna's story. I say Vikander and not Williams or Mcdonald should be in the poll.

    Pre-Cannes:

    01. Anne Hathaway, Les Miserables
    02. Sally Field, Lincoln
    03. Laura Linney, Hyde Park on Hudson
    04. Nicole Kidman, The Paperboy
    05. Samantha Barks, Les Miserables

    06. Annette Bening, Imogene
    07. Olivia Williams, Hyde Park on Hudson
    08. Amy Adams, The Master
    09. Jessica Chastain, Zero Dark Thirty
    10. Helena Bonham Carter, Great Expectations

    11. Vanessa Redgrave, Song for Marion
    12. Kristin Scott Thomas, Only God Forgives
    13. Isla Fisher, The Great Gatsby
    14. Alicia Vikander, Anna Karenina
    15. Charlize Theron, Snow White and the Huntsman

Right now, Barks, Williams, Fisher, and Vikander are the only newcomers in my Top 15. I suppose we'll see a few more enter the race at some point. Also, I have Lawrence in Lead Actress.

And even though she's not in my Top 5, I'm rooting for Bening!

Hathaway's anorexic looking self should do wonders for an Oscar nom. The headlines for the pap pictures are about how she's looking dangerously thin. Worked for Portman, and like her there is both scary thinness AND non-acting performing.

Ang Lee - The only 2x Bafta/DGA/Oscar-Winning Director!
Meryl on Oscars: Y’see these little babies? These are my best f***ing friends
and they never let me down. Try to get ‘em away from me and I’ll eat you alive.

I think it's odd how the original Fantine (Randy Graff) wasn't even NOMINATED for a Tony Award - Frances Ruffelle won for her Eponine (Samantha Barks) and Judy Kuhn was nominated for her Cosette (Amanda Seyfried)

Anne looks horrible in those set photos. Not sure why she had to cut her hair that short.

Kristin Scott Thomas is fucking awesome in Salmon fishing in the Yemen, with another release date she could have been a sure nominee.

In the novel Fantine sold her hair because she needs money (like Joe March but in a tragic way ).

lol. Sounded good on paper, but yeah since I saw the trailer... Imogene looks like the safer bet.

My California friend is seeing Ruby Sparks tomorrow night, so I shall know then.
