This looks very "Ridley Scott/Peter Jackson" in the best possible way.
And when was the last time we had some iconic female villains? Ironically, it might well be Charlize's Monster, for my recollection.

I dunno, it seems like it's been a while. Disney has always been fantastic at this though; Maleficent, Ursula, Cruella, and of course the Queen in the original Snow White. Does she have a name, I can't recall it.

My favourite recent female villain has to be Smurf in Animal Kingdom.

Since this is, or should be, a celebration of Charlize Theron (the movie hopefully is!) I'll post this video of her accepting a Human Rights Campaign honour the other day. Michael Fassbender handed her the award!

    Love Theron.

Are you not familiar with Snow White?
Yes. But what's wrong with a bit of mystery ?
    I prefer the tease.

Chris Hemsworth infuses his character with such powerful energy.
He is the perfect, natural fit for this film.

Speaking of that, Jacki Weaver is in three big movies this year: Five Year Engagement, Stoker, and The Silver Linings Playbook!

I don't remember Snow White bringing an army of dwarves to take out the evil queen.

Fun Fact: I've seen the trailers to both upcoming Snow White-themed releases, of which both I've currently still have no interest in seeing.
    Movies recently reviewed by RRA:

    Star Trek (2009)
    Pain & Gain (2013)
    Oblivion (2013)
    Jurassic Park III (2001)
The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997)

The New RRA: Less Spam, still 100% ruining AD.

    That's not a fun fact, that's a useless fact.

what concerns me mostly about this films success if people have already had it with Snow White fatigue. I mean Once Upon A Time, Mirror Mirror, and now this one. I mean this is probably going to be superior to all of those, but worries me is that the movie going public would have had enough with this already. Just my two cents.

I am still going to see this for sure.

also fun fact, that I was just made aware of, Liberty Ross, model/actress who plays Snow White's Mother, is married to the director, and is also the sister of Atticus Ross OSCAR WINNER!!!

If we have a weak supporting actress competition I wouldn't be surprised to see Charlize Theron being nominated for some awards, at least a Golden Globe.

    Jali Awards Best Actress 1920-1925
1920 Tora Teje, Erotikon // 1921 Pola Negri, The wildcat
1922 Anna May Wong, The toll of the sea // 1923 Marion Davies, Little old New York
1924 Marie Prevost, The marriage circle // 1925 Gloria Swanson, Stage struck

Too bad none of these look as good as Animal Kingdom and I'm sure Jacki doesn't haven anywhere near as good a role.

Oh well, it's nice to see her working in big Hollywood movies.

I really hope this song is eligible at the Oscars so I can bitch when it's nominated. Florence 4lyfe!
I know I've got a big ego, I really don't know why it's such a big deal, though.

Taking Victorian Goth to the next sexy level .... at the SWATH premier.

It would be rather awesome if the movie ended with Charlize sucking the beauty out of Stewart (and then slaughter the hunter guy, who obviously will fall for snow white) and just conquer the whole world.

Is it wrong that I actually root for Charlize Theron to eat Kristen Stewart's heart and bang the Thor dude in this thing?
