That quite a coup - get him an Emmy (& Golden Globe) in the Supporting Category (a much easier feat than getting a lead category nom/win) and now for the second season you've got a critically acclaimed show with an Emmy-winning lead actor. Well done, HBO. Well done.

Dinklage had the "and Peter Dinklage" credit last year. I always figured that him and Sean Bean were the two biggest stars so it was a matter of one gets the vaunted first billing and one gets the vaunted "and" billing at the end. Now with Bean's character dead, it makes sense for Dinklage to assume top billing himself.

I don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't read the books, but Tyrion for me is clearly the lead character of the whole series anyway. Top billing is wholly justified.

I own the second book but purposely didn't read it to see how I like the show without having done so (I'd read the first prior to season one). Depending how I feel after this season I may read the rest of the books or I may not.

Oh absolutely. I'm not surprised or the least bit unhappy (quite the opposite - I couldn't be any more giddy). I just think it worked out really great. We all know how hard it is to get a lead actor Emmy nom/win for a show like this (sci-fi/fantasy). Whereas the Supporting nom isn't quite so impossible. I just think it's really cool that the now lead actor was able to slip through that barrier by winning in the Supporting category before moving up to front and center. It gives the show some additional awards cred.

I would think that Dinklage would still run as Supporting though, no? Even with his apparently expanding role in this season and future ones it's not like he will own the show ala Cranston in Breaking Bad or Hamm in Mad Men.

You're probably right. It's just wishful thinking on my part, I suppose, that he'd be able to push through into the lead category. It would increase GoT's presence in future awards races immensely.

Regardless, I'm happy since (cliche as it may be) Tyrion is my absolute favorite character, and Dinklage rocks it. He completely deserves it.

    I don't agree with this.

I'm reading the third book now and the lead character is
most probably Jon Snow
.

Also, the first one really did belong to Eddard.

I don't know about the rest of the series, though.

that was really haunting! cannot wait. Love that Tyrion and Cersei staredown towards the end with Cersei almost laughing at Tyrion's threats.

LOVE LENA HEADY! Is it possible for her to slip into the supporting actress race?

also in the short promos you see some of Natalie Dormer, she looks amazing as well. She is playing Maegery.

WNBC and maybe other stations are showing a "what happened in season 1 special." Did HBO buy time on stations to promote? That's a lot of promotion. I don't remember this for any other show.

I think HBO is on the lookout for another big hit so they can cancel True Blood.
