    DGA Lifetime Achievement Award Predictions

For my first poll, I picked one of the most important and historically prestigious awards given out on semi-annual basis. It is one of my favorites because, for the most part, its list of winners represents top notch quality.

Who do you think will win the DGA Lifetime Achievement Award this year? And if you don't think that this award will be given out this year, who do you think the next honoree will be?

I have made this as inclusive a list as possible and wasn't just guided by my own tastes. If you feel like I've left a good candidate out, please let me know in the comments.

To explain how I came up my list of ten: I feel that Robert Zemeckis and Michael Mann have a shot at winning this down the road but not necessarily next year. Likewise, I didn't include the likes of Coen Brothers, James Cameron or, someone like Yimou Zhang or Spike Lee yet.

It is interesting that coming up with a list of twelve was relatively hard, so hard, in fact that getting it down to five may have been reasonable. In any case, let me know what you think. That said, I probably should have included William Friedkin and Warren Beatty.

Beatty is a good suggestion, actually.
Also, Rob Reiner should be on the list, they used to love him.
And let me toss in James Ivory for the sake of it.

Ouch, Rob Reiner was a big oversight on my part.

And James Ivory already won back in 1995.

I'd say David Lynch, Warren Beatty, or Ridley Scott.

Thinking about it more, I don't know if DGA would go for Beatty who only has 4 credited films to date. This is DGA. If anything, I think George Lucas has a better shot.

I sort of think that Scott, Polanski, Forman and Weir are the frontrunners here.

Hasn't Lucas had problems with the Guilds over union issues in the past? I figure that might be a strike against him, particularly here (not necessarily so in the PGA, for example).

I'd throw money behind Ridley Scott on this...or Peter Weir....with an outside shot by Robert Redford.

While I just used Lucas as an example, this past year, DGA held a tribute to him and Star Wars moderated by Christopher Nolan.

I think these announcements usually come out in early December assuming DGA plans to give that award out that year.

Looks like there was no honoree this year. Chances are we will see one next year though.

I'm hoping Jack Nicholson shows up to present the award to Forman.

One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest is one of my favorite movies ever. Every so often I see photos of cast reunions for random old movies. I think this film needs a reunion sometime. How awesome would it be to have Nicholson, DeVito, Fletcher, Christopher Lloyd, and Michael Douglas all on hand to honor Forman?
