Also, $5M doesn't seem like that much? I believe there were films at Sundance that went for more than that.

You know this is a pretty good deal for CBS films, it's an up and comer studio and they are looking for a breakout hit. They'll certainly recoup the 5 million they spent on the film and make a profit. They are probably testing the waters for an awards play, especially after their successes with Salmon Fishing.

I could see it playing like A Serious Man, with a Screenplay nomination and maybe Picture in the expanded field.

Limited Release on December 6th. Expands December 20th.

So maybe more of an Oscar player than we thought? That's a very Awardsy release date.

Hmm. For now I would say it's at least getting a screenplay nod.

The early buzz for this has been strangely calmed down but at the same time always very, very positive. The Cannes selection in a very crowded field (crowded with american films) and the December release date make me think we have a contender and more importantly, make me think we may have a truly great movie. I'm excited.

They better bring this to Venice, TIFF, and NYFF.

Venice? After opening in Cannes? LOL, how? TIFF and NYFF look safe bets, though.

San Sebastian does have a section for films from other festivals, but I think that's an exception among Europe A-type festivals, which are too proud to show something that's not a premiere (or restored classics in restrospectives, I guess).
