It's on Showtime, why wouldn't it get made?
I think it's the same as when 24 made the president evil: believable and good tv.
I love this show so much. I seriously hiked up my cable cost just so I could watch this. I usually have a hard time watching something like this on TV. But the key for me is their pace. Damien Lewis is v good. But to me, Claire Daines - is simply a revelation to me. I have never been a fan of hers. I most of the times didn't get her at all. But in this show.... She is incredible.
I could not believe when the show and cast were missed at the SAG awards. So glad when I heard the Emmy nods.
Claire Danes has been my favorite actress for a long time. Homeland is just a validation.

that I live and you are gone
there's a grief that can't be spoken
there's a pain goes on and on"
Sorry for that spoiler.
I guess, as much as I think Homeland reaches higher highs, I just see it as an extension of 24 (also given the pedigree). It's like the serious drama to 24's action film.

Oh, it's not a big deal, I think my mom (who loves 24, lol) told me that awhile back.
And I see what you're saying and I probably agree with it (especially your comparisons between the two shows), but there was something about this that seemed more specific and somehow controversial (how dare you suggest that one of OUR SOLDIERS could be turned) than the threat of a nuke (I guess I saw most or some of season 2) or as you say, a president being bad (the thought being that all politicians are evil).
I'm probably doing a really shitty job of articulating my thoughts right now. But I'm surprised more of a fuss hasn't been made from the right wing Republicans. Or maybe there has and I've just missed it.
I don't think there was a backlash... but doesn't the show pretty much steer clear of making partisan judgments? I didn't get a pro-left or right agenda feel from this show.
The "OMG EVIL MUSLIM!" probably balances out the "OMG EVIL MARINE!"
Season 2 trailer:
That trailer is amazing! I got chills.
Finally caught up with Season One. I had seen all of them except for the last few so decided to do a full marathon over two days before Season Two starts. Absolutely loved the last two in particular (Danes and Lewis deserved their Emmy wins). In a way I was a bit surprised Patinkin wasn't nominated since he's also a stand out in it.
"It's better to over analyse than not analyse at all." NM. 2000.
Finally watched the final 4 episodes. I got sick of Lewis's stupid mildly-emotive-at-best face and was over his character when we knew his loyalty for sure. And the storyline with Nazir's son seemed stupid and cheesy.
Crossfire - It totally is. Danes is good in her relatively unexciting plotline.
Representative Brody - Carrie threatening Al-Zahrani is an amazingly acted scene. So is her heartbreak over Brody's visit. The end's exciting as set-up.
The Vest - So when is 2x Emmy winner Danes getting her Oscar role? Presumably she has the sense not to do something like Albert Nobbs, and she is young/pretty, clearly one of the best actors of her generation. Her performance is genius, and Carrie putting everything together is masterful.
I effing hate stupid Brody and his horrible, lying ways.
Marine One - I hate stupid hypocritical Jessica and hope she gets punched in the face by someone she's wronged.
I hate stupid Brody even more and his getting Carrie fired and broken down to the point that she gets electroshock. He is the Sylar of this show - his not dying is annoying and is going to bring down the quality of the show in the long run, I feel. I hope the series - well hopefully season, but that'd be unlikely - finale has Carrie torturing him and his dying in disgrace (perhaps via suicide). Lewis obviously is blown off the screen in his scenes with Danes, but he's totally outacted by Morgan Saylor as well. I see why he might win - double length episode centered around him, Emotional Moments, hardworking actor largely unrecognized (for a reason) for his past efforts, clean sweep for the show, Cranston being so close to a record - but he's easily 6th place of the nominees for me.
So even though the episode is About Brody, Carrie/Danes as always is The Reason to watch. Her confrontation with Dana and the ending are the episode's highlights; I really hope she gets that memory back soon and they don't drag out Carrie just thinking she's crazy forever.
Ang Lee - The only 2x Bafta/DGA/Oscar-Winning Director!
Meryl on Oscars: Y’see these little babies? These are my best f***ing friends
and they never let me down. Try to get ‘em away from me and I’ll eat you alive.
Just finished marathoning the first season and Claire Danes is simply AMAZING. Who knew? I was blown away by her performance and the Emmy is well-deserved. And the little girl that plays Dana? Love her.
The finale was a great finale but honestly the best episode of the season for me is "The Weekend."
I'm constantly in awe with this. Not since the first season of 24, I felt so riveted with a political thriller. This might just become my favorite TV show since Six Feet Under, if it keeps on going.
And yes, I do get a feeling that they're shooting their load early too - but it's that... ballsy attitude that keeps me in awe.
As for Claire Danes, I've been a fan and a supporter ever since she first appeared in that wonderful My So-Called Life. She's the best chin actress I've ever seen
Season 2, please do not disappoint.
