Did tracking really inch up? Maybe people are suddenly realizing HOLY SHIT NEW STAR TREK! and waking up from the Marvel cloud finally?
The cast only started U.S. PR this week and the NYC premiere is tomorrow. The movie is opening next weekend so of course this week is going to be the one with all the promotion and the commercials will be everywhere, etc. and increased visibility. Until now, only people who were actively anticipating it have been following the worldwide release and reports on the internet, but now the general public is becoming aware. Variety had it projected for an $85 million opening last week but has now adjusted it up to $90 million (which would be the best for the franchise ever obv).

I don't think it's a matter of waking up from the Marvel as such that IM3 will be in its third week by the time STID opens. They attract a similar audience and that audience has already seen IM3.

I feel that the RT score should probably remain relatively stable because the U.K. reviews are already in and they were mostly raves, so even if U.S. critics have a more mixed reaction that should be enough to keep the score pretty stable.

I have tickets to see this tonight! Simon Pegg, John Cho, and Alice Eve are going to be there!

But... I'm not going. It's the next town over and traffic is terrible at this time of the day. It took me an hour and half to get there to see Silver Linings Playbook in October. Not worth it.

Edgar Wright revealed earlier today that he directed a shot in this movie.

(Sorta like how Spielberg directed a shot in DePalma's SCARFACE.)

U.S. reviews are coming in. I think I've read ones from all the major critics/papers except the NY Times by now. General consensus seems to be the same as the foreign reviews: largely positive, a few mixed, weak spot is the female characters and Benedict Cumberbatch is the standout.

Currently 88% at RT with 98 reviews. Foreign box office, according to Paramount, was improved 70% for the opening weekend over the 2009 film.

Cumberbatch is going to have a huge year.
