I've watched 2 seasons so far. Second season makes a huge improvement over the first, which is also fun, though. Angel's interesting turn, New and improved villians as Spike, and that finale OMG! That last shot of
Buffy leaving Sunnydale was so instant-classic
I love this so far.
"New Moon Rising" was a terrific episode and a great way to give the Willow + Oz relationship
closure
it definitely needed, for the viewers and the characters as well.
I really loved Willow and Oz and I thought this was a beautiful and moving way to leave both characters at peace with themselves and their feelings. Alison Hannigan was so good in this episode and I really like how it explored bigotry and how it can sneak up on us when we least expect it if we rest on our moral complacency, like Riley and even Buffy when Willow told her about the true nature of
hers and Tara's
relationship.
And also, as dull as I think he is, Riley has blended quite well within the show in the last stretch of episodes to a point in which he isn't annoying anymore. I can live with his presence on the show.
Oh and I forgot to mention that "Superstar" was HILARIOUS (Jonathan in the opening titles as the show's star).
Season 4 has picked up in a major way in the last 4-5 episodes.
Wow, "Restless"!
I kinda don't know what to say about this episode but it seemed even more Lynchian than Lynch itself. Truly an episode to immerse yourself into and watch repeatedly. I'm still trying to piece it all together but I think it's kind of genius how it was linked to the events in "Primeval". It totally makes sense that
the very first-ever slayer haunts each of the Scoobies' essence of themselves since they disrupted the whole slayer mythology by fusing with Buffy
.
There seems to be some kind of foreboding as well, with Tara telling Buffy
she has no idea what's coming and who she is
.
A truly spellbinding episode and I think that overall, while Season 4 had its rough patches, overall it was great and truly innovative television. I can totally see why this show is so highly regarded; its high-wire creativity is something to be admired. Episodes like "Hush", "Who Are You?" and "Restless" truly push the boundaries of what the medium can accomplish.
Buffy season 2 is my favourite TV season ever. I'm glad you enjoyed it! It is indeed far better than the first season, which of course I love as well, but is really about getting to know the characters and beginning to establish the mythology, themes, tone, humour, and style. It's a good season, but season 2 takes all of that and amplifies it, going further and deeper than anything in that first season suggests. The second half of season 2 is brilliant, with each character arc hitting grand emotional notes. Also, Becoming Part 2 (the final hour of season 2) is my favourite TV episode ever. That ending just kills me every time! It is so damn haunting, powerful, sad, and perfectly executed.
I love witnessing someone watch this show for the first time! Especially since you're enjoying it so much! Restless is brilliantly bonkers and it's an episode you'll want to revisit seasons later. You're dead on about that foreboding stuff. This episode is considered a landmark in the series and it really is something special.
So muchfor both of you now!
So I started Season 5 today.
"Buffy vs. Dracula" was a great opener. I really enjoyed how the gang succumbed to Dracula's charms, Xander's in particular was hilarious and I LOLed at Anya's insistence to see him because of their past history.
I LOVED the scene at the end of the episode between Buffy and Giles; some of the most powerful moments in the series are between Buffy and Giles and it seemed like in Season 4 Giles-Buffy interaction was nearly non-existent so I was glad that they had this moment and that Giles steps up once again as a watcher and a figure of importance.
And I really want to know what the line about Buffy not knowing what's coming means. And lol Buffy has a sister out of the sudden, wtf???
A very promising start to Season 5.![]()
Oh Dawny will PISS YOU OFF so much, but by the end (and when you figure it all out) you love her just as much as you love everyone else.
Played to perfection by Michelle Trachtenberg.
Will Oscar have Riva Fever?
That scene with Giles and Buffy at the end is soooooooo good. I rewatched it randomly the other day, as I tend to do from time to time when I'm thinking of a scene.
Plus, the scene where she finds Dawn in her room has got to be one of the best examples of how to end an episode. Brilliant stuff that never gets old.
It's true that many people couldn't stand Dawn, but I think that was the point of her character? I never had a problem with her. She actually reminded me a lot of my own sister.
I usually consider season 5 to be my favorite. You're in for some brutal yet amazing things.
The best episode of the series is in Season 5!
And Dawn is awesome...only Whedon could pull off her character concept like that.

I thought "Buffy vs. Dracula" was one of the stupidest episodes of the series actually, utterly inconsequential and a bit too dumbed down for my taste. It gets worse upon multiple viewings as well. But even one of the lesser eps is still entertaining of course. I thought the best moment in it was actually at the end where they're all waiting for Dracula to come back from the dead after they've killed him and snark about those 'Horror false Gotcha! endings'
I decided to repost my episode rankings from the earlier thread

I think Killed by Death is brilliant actually (you only rated a "2") It's always been in my Top 10. Probably my favorite "stand alone" episode of the series for me. Just terrifying.
Also this gem from Cordelia:

I just think it was a rehash of a lot of other episodes in a Buffy-finds-occult-in-something-that-should-be-normal sense. Plus I don't think she even mentions Angel leaving. Plus I listed to annoying music over and over again in college.
