Stanley Kubrick: Limited Edition Collection (9-film set, DVD and Blu Ray 5/31)

This has been rumored for quite a while. As expected, the box set includes 2001, A Clockwork Orange (new special edition), The Shining, Full Metal Jacket, Eyes Wide Shut and two films previously unreleased on Blu Ray: Lolita and Barry Lyndon. The biggest surprise is that the WB-released box set also includes Dr. Strangelove (via Sony) and Spartacus (via Universal).

The box set will also include Stanley Kubrick: A Life in Pictures (though in standard definition), as well as a 40 page booklet.

Looks to be a pretty sweet set.

But the 2001 Blu Ray won't include the famous lost 15-something minutes that was recently discovered which Kubrick chopped out after the original premiere.

    FAIL

    ~But I do have 2001 on Blu-Ray, and it's bitchin.

No doubt they're saving that for a big new release...45 year anniversary?

Is there a reason these Kubrick sets have such a hideous box?

That's like the new STAR WARS blu-ray set won't* have the OT deleted scenes, one which that cockteaser Mr. Lucas showed nerds at some convention. I'll wait.

Thing about the 2001 footage though, unless I'm wrong, WB decided not to include it as it was too expensive.

Same "reason" why NIGHTBREED Director's Cut is still in the vault.

*=Or am I wrong? Correct me if so. Hell until today, I didn't know Criterion is doing BLOW OUT.

Better question: That old Kubrick DVD special edition box set, why didn't it have BARRY LYNDON?

~I mean I know its not as acclaimed or popular as 2001 or A CLOCKWORK ORANGE or whatever, but Jesus it was Oscar nominated for Best Picture, Director, etc.

Definitely not interested in re-buying a bunch of films in the process of getting Barry Lyndon, but I'll be happy with the inevitable standalone release.

The full six-film Star Wars set will have the deleted scenes - and lots more beside. I think 30 hours of special features on three additional discs was advertised. But that's only if you want all six films.

    Great news.

However, I am waiting for the 100 year anniversary box set from Warner. Frankly dear, I am getting tired of upgrading Kubrick again and again.

To dig this up from the vaults:

Watching "Barry Lyndon" on Blu-Ray: it looks gorgeous, but Criterion, PLEASE get the license from Warner Bros. and fix the aspect ratio! There's a letter from Kubrick to the projectionists that nullifies Leon Vitali's thoughts on how it should be shown on home video!

    * also, Criterion, redo "The Shining"; that pink tennis ball is just wrong.
