Yes, and the usage of Grizzly Bear was perfect. I feel like I say this every other episode but this was one of my 2-3 favorites of this season. It was like they mixed the very best elements of the first two seasons with the direction they've taken the show in the last three and made a perfect little love-child. Ugh.

And Robin's "Seven laugh" at the beginning had in me in stitches. Hell, she was hilarious throughout the entire episode.

Aw, I loved it. This is an episode that just had me wearing a shit-eating grin the whole time it was on. Especially, the musical number, oh that musical number.

How often is Alyson Hannigan in this? I watched an episode once and she was not there.

You watched an episode from her pregnancy leave last spring. She has been in like 96% of the episodes.

It was one of the more ingenious moments of a little game I like to call "How can we hide the fact that both our female leads are pregnant?" Seriously, watch the second half of Season 4, and drink every time you see any really blatant attempt at covering up the fact that both Alyson Hannigan and Cobie Smulders were pregnant at the time.

My personal favorite? Flashback to Lily in a hot dog eating competition. She stands up and has a very prominent food baby, in an Emmy-nominated* turn by her actual baby.

(*no actual Emmy nominations given in utero)

That musical number was proof of how great this show and its characters are. The show's never really done anything like it before and it still worked perfectly. Not the best episode ever but a good one that moves the plot forward.

It didn't, though? I don't mind the mother search episodes as much as some critics, but you could remove any single one of them from the plot and not really miss anything. Master-plotting is not this show's strong suit.

No, you're right. That was a terrible wording (it was technically the opposite). I just meant that it moved Ted closer to the mother. Granted they'll just use that as a way to tease us for an indefinite amount of episodes...

I loved the mother aspects this week. It was one of the more amusing of those episodes. It is becoming way too obvious, though. They either need to make this the final season (ha) or bring the mother on as a character.

This wasn't necessarily a great one, but I enjoyed it a lot, very funny. Loved Ted and Barney's meeting, "High and outside?"

And seeing Swish on this was pretty random, but he was the perfect Yankee for it.

Also, did anyone know that Neil Patrick Harris directed the "Jenkins" episode?

From Wiki: "Of the previous 100 episodes 95 were directed by Fryman and 5 were directed by Rob Greenberg, making Harris only the third different person to direct an episode of the show."

That is probably my favorite episode this season. The Jenkins storyline with Marshall/Lilly (Reacher/Settler) was great, especially with the Amanda Peet guest starring; and the storyline with Ted/Robin with Ted's class drinking game every time she says "but...umm." That was one of the funniest episodes to date. He did a nice job with that episode.

this should be fun..

@ActuallyNPH Jennifer Lopez was really great - hot, cool, and funny. And well prepared! She gave me a few pointers. Here's one:

So I watched my first episode of this show tonight as Carrie was guesting, (and OMG I need screencaps, her hotness was just through the roof) and wow, this is a hilarious show. Great ensemble, and really fun and sharp writing and editing. NPH was a blast in particular.

I had been planning in netflixing the first season some time in the future, but I may have to bump it up in my queue.

That was very hilarious, and I love how they include d the Ted Mosby is a douchebag aspect of his character in the film, but he's not as bad as they are making him (Which I know they did the episode on purpose due to spoilers). The actors playing each them are great and I love that they used actual stars (except for one, who used to be a star :p)I am so pumped for this episode!

Didn't care for last episode: Robots Vs. Wrestlers at all. What, being somewhat cultured means you are automatically a pompous bore?? And apparently acting like some spoiled five-year-old brats is appropriate when you crash a party. How dare those pretentious prigs held such a boring private party anyway!

I know what the show tried to say, and Ted did indeed act even more like a nerdy show-off than usual. But really... It's forced. The jokes mostly fell flat. And the "boorish American jackass" stereotype just didn't work on these characters.

I get that it's supposed to be a "fish out of water" situation. But they acted like a bunch of country bumpkins who lacked any level of sophistication, grace and manner. Not only couldn't they blend in, they had to be clumsy. They couldn't just slink away in embarrassment, they had to make a scene. As if they were somehow entitled to have a temper tantrum. They seemed more like characters from South Park than the usual themselves.

Besides, Ted reciting The Divine Comedy in Italian? Really? Is he Sheldon Cooper from TBBT?

I haven't watched the earlier seasons in quite awhile, but this previous episode was probably one of the lesser episodes of the series for me. The show has handled drifting apart or separating from your friends much better in the past.

Wow, this episode fucking pissed me off and, while I've been disappointed by a few episodes, I've never really considered any of them "bad" (I'm a bit of a fan boy, so I'm probably just turning a blind eye) but this episode was just horrible. From the inane "NoCanDosVille Baby Doll" (or for that matter anything to do with that movie) to the absolutely repulsive (imo) ending with Ted realizing he has baggage to only to show that her baggage is worse so no big deal, he's too good for her. The whole thing was just way off. Barney was literally the only good thing about this episode, imo. And Robin too, I guess.

bryan1311
05-25-2010, 02:45 PM
It's kind of unbelievable how much better this finale was than the previous episode, which was awful. I do think that they're sort of treading water ever since they narrowed the "mother search" down to one person but there were some nice moments with Robin finally putting love in front of her career only for it to backfire on her. And I really appreciated the way they handled Marshall/Lily considering having a baby. It was humorous yet mature at the same time. But perhaps most importantly, it was hilarious. Maybe the funniest it's been the entire season.

"Why is Ellen Degeneres in my bedroom?!"

That movie episode was all sorts of wrong. Uneven season. Can`t wait to see the finale though.

I think Robin 101 is my fave and of course the movie thing is the worst. Season Finale unseen.

Bean
05-25-2010, 04:07 PM
I agree that it seemed like they were treading water some after the 100th episode. It's hard to tease the audience with something so close to the central conceit of the show and then not be able to elaborate on it. Hopefully Marshall and Lily going through pregnancy and Robin's newfound tenderness will lead to some nice place next year.

I do rather like the way they managed to tie some ideas through in this season, even though it was probably the show's weakest. Going all the way back to the season premiere back in September, we opened on Aristotle's bust, with a lot of (funny) pondering on identity. The doppelganger bit was a funny way to comment on that idea, and they tied it up neatly in the finale.

hurricanesmith
05-25-2010, 04:23 PM
I'd say everything up to the 100th episode was pretty good, with a handful of good episodes after. But the creators being called away to do another pilot AND the uncharacteristic early renewal led to a lot of laziness. Hopefully the fact that Livin' on a Prayer didn't get picked up means the creators will dedicate more time to setting up some arcs for next season.

I went through and watched most of the season again (thanks BitTorrent!), and it held up better than I had recalled, even after the 100th episodes. It only really starts to stumble when they get to the episode with Marshall and the monkey. But I think that's just the last 3 or 4 episodes, so it doesn't quite crater the whole season.

Probably misses my Top 5 comedy series for this season, but still one of my favorite shows on television.
